VISUAL HISTORY COORDINATOR /VIDEO EDITOR

Start date: July 2015
Position: The DGA Special Projects Department and Communications Department seek candidates for the position of Visual History Coordinator/Video Editor. This is an opportunity for professional growth for a well-qualified individual with a film or communications degree or comparable professional experience in video production and digital content management for film & television, and an interest in participating in the development of an important resource on the art and craft of the moving image.
Description of Organization and Visual History Program: The Directors Guild of America represents and protects the economic interests and creative rights of film and television directors and their production teams. The DGA Visual History Program documents the craft of directors and their teams through videotaped peer-to-peer interviews made available on the DGA website along with other educational and cultural events and programs produced by the Guild.
Qualifications:
• Required:
Experience in video production (event coverage and interviews) and post-production (editing, sound cleaning, graphics, media
management).
Competence in digital editing software, including Final Cut Pro 7 and Final Cut Studio 2 (Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro, and
Compressor), FCPX, and/or Adobe Premiere.
Experience in content management and web publishing.
Experience using Adobe Photoshop.
Competence in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, or other spreadsheet applications.
• Preferred:
Knowledge of and interest in the history and craft of cinema and television.
Experience with After Effects graphics creation and web video standards and best practices.
Knowledge of oral history interview standards and techniques.
Knowledge of physical and digital media preservation and conservation, as well as archival cataloging and indexing practices.
Strong writing and editorial skills.
Experience in video recording and use of digital video cameras.
Overall Responsibilities: Coordinate Visual History Program from production of interviews to post-production, including overseeing the preparation of interviews and accompanying tape logs and transcripts for uploading to DGA website. Maintain communication with VH Archivist, providing information for updating of databases and preserving original master tapes as well as other digital media.
Primary duties include:
Pre-Production & Production: Assist with securing venue and camera operator; procure and maintain production equipment and supplies; oversee videotaping in Los Angeles and support interview production in New York and other locations.
Post-production: Edit and select highlights from events and programs recorded at the Guild, then post content to DGA website. Review and edit annotated logs of VH interviews for public use. Edit interviews and interview highlights, select and prepare interview photos and screen captures for web; upload and publish interviews and supporting materials to DGA website and prepare for social media sharing.
Administrative & Shared Special Projects Department Duties (as needed): Coordinate with SP Assistant to order equipment and supplies. Assist in file management, staffing & videotaping for events.
