Purpose of the job:
The Digital Artist Employee Manager is responsible for the management, career development, and recruitment of digital artists in varying skill sets within the company. The Digital Artist Employee Manager oversees the planning and scheduling for artists in their group to ensure talent is appropriately utilized across all projects, as well as partnering with the technology management team to identify talent to participate in ongoing Software and R&D initiatives.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Responsible for recruitment, career development, performance evaluation, performance management, and talent retention
Partners with Department Supervisors to collaborate on artist career development goals and ongoing initiatives
Participates in long-term planning with Digital Studio team, Producers, and Supervisors to create appropriate staffing and recruiting plans; attends weekly staffing meetings to ensure labor is effectively utilized across all projects
With the VP, Digital Studios, forecasts artist labor utilization ensuring appropriate utilization levels are consistently maintained
Attends bidding meetings with Producers and Supervisors to ensure that the proper staffing breakdowns are created and provides both internal and external candidate options
Partners with Production Management and Supervisors to anticipate staffing changes and additional resource needs throughout the life of a project
Meets with Production teams, Supervisors, and artists regularly to ensure consistent communication; serves as a liaison between the artists, Supervisors, and Production to facilitate feedback
Works with the Recruiting team to manage the recruiting process by reviewing incoming reels, facilitating Supervisor and Production reel reviews, leading interviews, collecting feedback and communicating action items on all candidates
Maintains strong professional relationships with talent at other facilities in an effort to predict employee availability for current or upcoming projects
Participates in project post-mortems and ensures areas of improvement for artist management and pipeline development are identified and appropriate action items are assigned and delivered
Oversees the creation and maintenance of department documentation
Promotes a positive and productive work environment
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in film, art, computer science or related field required
5+ years computer graphics production experience including 2+ years experience managing a team within a large-scale VFX pipeline
Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:
Ability to establish priorities, multi-task efficiently, and work with diverse personalities and all levels of management in a high-pressure environment
Must have strong leadership qualities with the ability to effectively delegate and mentor technical individuals
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as solid follow-through on multiple projects required
Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict
Outstanding customer service skills and the ability to develop and foster relationships with internal stakeholders required
Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps required; experience with Shotgun a plus
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:
Office working environment.
Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending production needs.
Walking/bending/sitting.
Eligible for BC Medical monthly premium coverage upon your enrollment into BC's provincial plan.
Also eligible to be enrolled into Digital Domain's extended health and dental benefits plan
