dick clark productions, a diverse entertainment company and producer of a wide range of television programming including awards shows, specials, and reality series is seeking a highly qualified Payroll Specialist/Staff Accountant.
Description
This position will play a necessary role in an organization that is searching to increase efficiency through innovation and a strong knowledge of payroll practices while maintaining the accuracy of the financials. Areas of responsibility include GL postings, bank and other account reconciliations, payroll system setup and maintenance, processing weekly and biweekly payrolls, preparing quarterly & annual wage reports using software, preparing related journal entries to record labor to the G/L, maintenance of the employee master file data, maintaining vacation accruals, labor accruals, interpreting HR policy to ensure proper and timely payment to employees and contractors and reviewing transaction activity to ensure compliance with management-authorized policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
• Process payroll accurately and timely and resolve reconciling items within acceptable time frame using ADP application
• Ability to analyze payroll activity and balances to ensure accuracy of payment and accuracy in the financial records and to communicate these findings effectively in verbal and written format to management, auditors, and others
• Responsible for preparing labor and other accounting entries (such as prepaids) to the G/L and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule
• Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures including but not limited to wages, vacation accruals and wage accruals
• Work closely with Assistant Controller and Accountants on reconciling wage expense and accruals as required between three systems (ADP, Cast and Crew and Great Plains)
• Assist with annual budget process as it relates to wage, vacation or benefit expense and be able to provide information to the Financial Analyst Manager as needed
• Facilitate with calculations and oversee that they are processed in a timely-manner with Cast and Crew (third-party production payroll company)
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations within the Balance Sheet binder
• Partner with A/P, A/R, operations and marketing departments to gain understanding of business and date requirements, propose, evaluate and implement solutions which ensure general ledger balances are correct relative to compensation expense, transactions are classified properly and reported accurately
• Prepare and submit financial reports and date required by executive leadership team, auditors, and other internal and external customers on a timely basis
• Prepare, support and explain tax packages and audit packages as required
• Educate and train team members and payroll back-up personnel on ADP system functionality set-ups and account structure to develop other system super users
• Facilitate with the evaluation of benefit packages, salary surveys, market studies and other special projects as required.
• Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls
• Other projects as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
• Must have an Associates degree in Accounting or equivalent; knowledge of computerized payroll systems and be able to perform moderate mathematical calculations
• Strong understanding of record keeping, and fundamental accounting practices
• 5+ years of experience in HR or accounting environment with progressive responsibilities
• Highly detailed oriented, organized in work
• Exercises good judgement in the application and interpretation of company policies and legal regulations as they relate to payroll
• Strong interpersonal and problem resolution skills
• Ability to meet assigned deadlines
• Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results
• Proficiency with email and MSOffice applications (specifically Excel) and experience with Great Plains preferred
• Individuals with Corporate Payroll experience highly desired
