PR, Marketing, and Social Media Intern for Celebrity Chef Devin Alexander
Manhattan Beach, CA
Devin is seeking a talented, creative PR or marketing intern to assist her in expanding her online presence via a monthly E-mail newsletter, blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc., as well as devise original contest ideas and other strategies to enhance her visibility in the media. If you are a marketing or PR-track student looking to work with a company that will give you hands-on experience, then this internship could be perfect for you.
Duties include: promoting Devin through Facebook, Twitter, her newsletter, blog, and other online media, drumming up contests and other creative ideas for expanding Devin's fan base, responding to fan mail and maintaining regular contact with her fans, writing sections of Devin's monthly newsletter and blog, and prepping entries to be uploaded to the blog.
This position has the potential of eventually transitioning into a part time or possibly even full time position if the relationship works. That said, we are seeking someone who is willing to grow with us and invest in the position beyond just a short period of time. We realize that interns coming just for the summer, fall, or spring semester might not be able to continue with a position at Devin Alexander Inc. immediately following the duration of the semester, but Devin is committed to training and working closely with interns to help foster them into more permanent positions. We had one student intern from Washington 2 summers in a row, and upon college graduation, she started in a full-time position. Our current Test Kitchen Director started as an intern, was promoted to part time, full time, Office Manager, then Director. Devin's currently personal assistant started as an intern then landed the full-time position. We also have other interns that are now part time, and others who have spent at least 6 months or more with us and have received credit in Devin's cookbooks. Almost all interns have received referrals for jobs after proving themselves as responsible, reliable, and friendly. We are committed to hiring from within (and actually prefer it) wherever possible.
Perks of an internship with Ms. Alexander include opportunities to put academic experience to use in the real world; development and execution of your own original project ideas; advancement of one's writing skills; and the opportunity to learn more about food and cooking (though you do not need to have any cooking skills for this position-just have to be interested in food).
You'll be working from an Office/Kitchen Studio in Manhattan Beach, in an extremely friendly and unique office environment. There are absolutely no office politics associated with this job, and we like to keep a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To maintain this setting, we seek employees that are also friendly, respectful, hard working, eager, and fun to be around.
We ask that you click through Ms. Alexander's website to familiarize yourself with her cooking style, writing style, and personality. Devin's mission is to help everyday people (think Middle America) lose weight and/or maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating healthier versions of the foods they love. Devin's brand is extremely fun and friendly, and we are seeking to uphold these qualities, while continuing to expand her visibility and fan base.
Requirements:
*Must have some concrete PR/marketing/social media experience (college courses are fine if it's a concentration; does not have to be professional experience)
*Must be friendly and comfortable speaking/corresponding with various PR firms and important media contacts (such as food and cookware companies) to coordinate giveaways, etc.
*Must be willing to maintain friendly correspondence with Devin's fans, stay on top of fan mail, etc.
*Must be extremely detail-oriented
*Must be willing to do some light office work in addition to writing (such as helping maintain Devin's contact database)
