TV chef and NY Times Bestselling Author of The Biggest Loser Cookbooks, etc. cookbook author, Devin Alexander is seeking a graphic design and photography intern.
Devin is the host of the ''America's Chefs on Tour'' premiering on publically broadcast stations nationwide; she's the chef of NBC's Hit Show, ''The Biggest Loser''; she's a New York Times Best Selling author of the Biggest Loser Cookbook Series and she's the author of ''Fast Food Fix'', ''The Most Decadent Diet Ever!'', ''I Can't Believe It's Not Fattening!'' In addition to having written for 11 national magazines, Devin is also the Culinary Advisor to Men's Fitness Magazine, and the spokeschef for numerous major cooking products and foods. Devin has also appeared regularly on the ''Today Show,'' ''Good Morning America,'', ''Dr. Oz'', ''Dr Phil'', ''The Doctors'', Discovery Health's ''National Body Challenge,'' et. al.
Devin is seeking an intern to help with graphic design and photography as well as office work, website maintenance (Wordpress CMS) and publicity and social media efforts. This is an extremely unique opportunity for a qualified person to receive actual photo credit and or bylines in many publications including major national ones. You will leave this internship with the start of a portfolio. If interested you will also learn a lot about food styling.
Duties include: contributing to design of brochures, postcards, mailings, Facebook and twitter cover photos, photographing on sets and shoots and photographing food styled in our test kitchen, assisting with creation of PR materials and marketing efforts among other duties associated with the success of the company. If you happen to be a great cook also, cooking can be a part of this, but does not need to be.
We ask that interns have availability of 16-20 hours per week, with the potential of eventually transitioning into a part time or possibly even full time position if the relationship works. That said, we are seeking someone who is interested in growing with us and investing in the position beyond just a short period of time.
Devin and her whole team is committed to training and working closely with interns to help foster them into more permanent positions. Our previous Test Kitchen Director for 7 years started as an intern, was promoted to part time, full time, Office Manager, then Director. We have another assistant who started as an intern and was eventually promoted to a full-time position. We also have other former interns that are now part time, and others who have spent at least 3 months with us and have received credit in Devin's cookbooks. Almost all interns have gotten referrals for jobs after proving themselves as responsible, reliable, and friendly.
In addition to the serious potential for a more permanent job offer and credit in her books, other perks of an internship with Ms. Alexander include opportunities to work on TV shoots, learn about and participate in the processes of magazine writing, food styling, book editing, and nutritional analysis, and of course the chance to work on and advance one's cooking skills.
You'll be working in the South Bay, in an extremely friendly and unique office environment. There are absolutely no office politics associated with this job, and we like to keep a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To maintain this setting, we seek employees that are also friendly, respectful, hard working, eager, and fun to be around.
We ask that you click through Ms. Alexander's website to familiarize yourself with her cooking style and personality. Devin's mission is to help everyday people (think Middle America) lose weight and/or maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating healthier versions of the foods they love. This means we focus on classic recipes with wide appeal, such as macaroni and cheese, meatloaf, chicken parmesan, cheesecake, brownies, etc. If you would be interested in working on makeovers of menu items you might see at a TGI Fridays, Applebee's, or Cheesecake Factory, then you would enjoy the types of recipes Devin develops. Additionally, part of Devin's appeal is her fun and energetic personality, and thus we are seeking employees who would also be excited about the work and would consistently bring positive energy to her projects.
