Culinary Assistant Needed For Busy Kitchen of Entrepreneur/TV Chef /Cookbook Author
Manhattan Beach CA
TV Chef, Entrepreneur, NY Times Bestselling Author, Magazine Contributor, etc. is seeking a talented, hard working, extremely reliable, full-time, Entry-Level Culinary Assistant, who loves to cook to assist her with all-things culinary within her business. This is a ''sky's the limit'', career-track position that presents huge opportunity for growth. You will work closely with the professionally trained chef and her team to provide culinary support to her ever-growing brand.
A creative culinary mind and knowledge of healthy food and calories is as important as a culinary degree for this position.
The style of cooking is healthy Middle American comfort food. Recipes are tailored for the masses. An interest in healthy food is essential and those without strict dietary constraints are preferred.
Duties will likely include (but are not limited to) assisting the chef in developing, creating, writing and testing recipes; assisting in prepping and cooking for food shoots before and on-set, assisting with food styling; calculation of nutritional data (on a computer program, which you will be trained on), doing dishes and kitchen cleanup (and making sure that the kitchen is spotless before you leave for the day!), baking the chef's signature desserts for drop-offs to studios and executives, etc. You will help coordinate and execute food shoots (television and photo). You will also coordinate tastings, grocery shop, make the chef's lunch daily and be responsible for keeping the kitchen stocked, assist in procuring samples of various foods, working as a liaison with the company's publicists, management and clients as well as assisting in writing of articles and other office work, such as social media outreach (as it relates to food). We cannot stress enough how important it is to be DETAIL-ORIENTED. If baking annoys you, please do not apply! (Because all of our recipes need to be precisely weighed and measured to determine calories, etc., they are all as precise as baking).
You'll be working from an Office/Test Kitchen in Manhattan Beach, in a very friendly and unique office environment. There are absolutely no office politics associated with this position, and we like to keep a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To maintain this setting, we seek employees that are also friendly, respectful, hardworking, smart, eager, and fun to be around. Very special and rare opportunity to work side-by-side with a very busy chef and the whole team in a tremendously integral and rewarding role if you love helping others and/or healthy food! Extremely friendly, fast-paced, on-the-go office environment makes the work days really fly by. You will not have time to return personal email or texts during the work day. The team works really hard together while still having fun in a super creative environment. If you are not a team player and a hard worker, you will instantly throw off the whole office energy and be in way over your head. With hard work, this job will give you the rare and unique opportunity to attend fun and glamorous events, tv shoots, etc. Not a work around the clock type of job (office hours are generally 10-7), but when you're present you need to be 110%. If you are the type of person who loves to work hard and know that you're making a difference, this could very well be your dream job.
If you would be interested in working on makeovers of menu items you might see at a TGI Fridays, Applebee's, or Cheesecake Factory, then you would enjoy the types of recipes developed here. Additionally, part of the chef's appeal is her fun, energetic, ''make your dreams a reality'' personality. Thus we are seeking employees who would also be excited about the work and would consistently bring positive energy to her projects, clients, fans, etc.
Requirements:
*MUST have at least 1 year (full-time) in a restaurant kitchen (waitressing or hosting does NOT count) OR 1 year in a legitimate media-related Test Kitchen OR 1 year at a catering company or 1 year anywhere you spent the majority of your day cooking. *MUST LIVE LOCAL TO Manhattan Beach with a reasonable commute
*Must be able to create delicious dishes
*Must have cooked your entire life and/or attended culinary school
