We currently have an opening for an Encoding Operator. This position is located in Burbank, California.
Position Overview
The Encoding Operator normalizes, modifies and prepares file-based content to defined specifications and workflows using specific digital media software and hardware systems. You will work as part of the Transcode Team and take direction from the Manager of Transcode Operations. Operators in Transcoding perform work order-based assignments at a high level of precision with an eye for technical details and content quality standards for DDG's customers. Candidates are those who possess a can-do, results oriented attitude, and take ownership of work-order assignments in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Primary Responsibilities
• Individual will edit, capture, compress and quality assure audio and video program material for subsequent theatrical and episodic releases.
• Video dubbing, editing, standards conversion, pre-processing, compression and quality assurance testing.
• Audio editing, restoration, conversion, encoding and quality assurance testing.
• Machine and system configuration, connection and troubleshooting.
• Individual must be able to compress audio and video to an acceptable degree while remaining within file size constraints.
• Individual must efficiently utilize various audio and video production tools (audio/video tape machines, compression systems, encoders, decoders, converters, pre-processing systems, etc.).
• Individual must utilize sound audible and visual judgment during the performance of daily duties.
• Ensure work assignments, their status and disposition are timely and accurately recorded in operations systems.
• Engage in on-going training programs as necessary.
• Must effectively analyze and communicate information in order to resolve issues and concerns as they arise.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• B.S. degree in computer science or programming, electronics or A/V technology related field (or equivalent experience). Individual must possess a fundamental understanding of digital audio and digital video signals, standards, machines and wiring. Strong organizational and computer skills are required (file systems and ftp).
• Minimum 2-3 years experience in audio and/or video post-production environment.
• A beginning-intermediate understanding of Final Cut Pro is required. Applicant will be required to take a Final Cut Pro proficiency exam.
• Familiarity with video tape formats, video file types and container formats.
• Ability to demonstrate an understanding of aspect ratios and frame rates used in HD and SD environments.
• Experience with Windows and Mac environments.
• Individual must be organized, diligent and detail-oriented.
• Individual must possess solid verbal and written communication skills.
• Position is audibly and visually demanding as a significant amount of the job responsibilities include intensive testing for minor audio and video impairments and artifacts.
• Individual will work in multimedia production environment requiring little to no physical labor. On occasion, individual will move equipment that ranges from 5 to 40 pounds.
