We currently have an opening for an Assistant Negative Cutter. This position will be located in Seattle, WA.
Summary:
The Assistant Negative Cutter reports to the Director of Operations and works to maintain an efficient production environment by completing the tasks assigned. Primary duties include splicing (35mm & 16mm) and assisting the production department with needs such as negative prep, consolidation and screening. The Assistant Negative Cutter is responsible for accurately and clearly communicating with their supervisor all progress, set-backs and events affecting projects.
Responsibilities:
• Splicing (16mm & 35mm)
• Safe and correct handling of negative
• Retrieve processed rolls from developing machines
• Inspect rolls of film for abnormalities
• Rewind and splice rolls together and add leader at head and tail of each roll
• Write ID on each end and log and store the lab rolls
• Translate the Timecode in the EDL list to edge numbers to find which shot is needed from the rushes negative
• Extract each required shot form the lab roll as a full take and resplice together to create a new selected roll of negative. Create a new Online EDL list to replace the rushes roll timecode with the new selected roll timecode
• Ability to correctly read key numbers
• Safe and correct handling and use of production equipment
• Familiarity with materials, supplies, equipment and facility
• Negative consolidation
• Check back
• Negative prep
• QC Screening
• Ability to identify various types of film stock
• Identifying bad splices and replacing or repairing splice
• Proficient use of Framemaster II
• Accurately estimate and communicate work time needed
• Keep work area clean
• Lead special projects as needed
• Train others on above duties
Requirements:
• 2-3 years experience in a post production facility.
• 1-2 years experience film handling.
• Familiar with EDL, OCN, Timecodes and DI.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong organization skills and the ability to prioritize.
