Position Description: System Administrator
Work focused on Windows and some Linux (CentOS/Red Hat) server environments, performs work that is highly complex and varied in nature. Develops integrated solutions to resolve highly complex technical and business issues. Recognized expert internally and externally
within several disciplines, and often provides strategic direction, guidance and integration of products and services. May lead projects and provide guidance/training to more junior staff.
Job functions focus on Windows with the addition of some Linux system administration, engineering, automation, and configuration management. The SA demonstrates working experience and success in the DEVOPs framework and practice. The individual must also be
very familiar with virtualization computing technologies such as VMware vSphere, RHEV Manager, or Openstack. The individual should have a good command of networking, storage technologies, and integrated or converged infrastructure.
Duties Include:
General system administration tasks for Windows and Linux systems, including but not limited to: server hardware installation and configuration; OS installation and configuration; monitoring configuration and reporting; provide triage, escalation and follow-up
on support issues; configure and maintain backup solutions; subject matter expert for internal company applications; documentation and end-user training; provide recommendations for application, process or system changes; participate in change management for
application deployments; participate in regular on-call rotation; and work with application support, quality assurance and development groups.
Researches, evaluates and recommends software and hardware products. Performs research and analysis of new engineering and integration, systems evolution, architecture, development, certification and accreditation, and configuration management. Performs technical
planning, internal and external reporting of analysis to support project decision making.
Responsible for troubleshooting server and enterprise software problems as reported by users. Provide technical expertise and advice to various areas of the enterprise in the development of information technology solutions and in support of Tier 2 and 3. Responsible
for documenting solutions to problems as needed.
Deploys the release of new technologies as well as designs, installs, configures, maintains and performs system integration testing of server operating systems, enterprise software, related utilities and hardware.
Requirements:
Work Experience:
At least 5 years, generally 7+ years of solid direct IT work experience in supporting, administering and engineering Windows server software and hardware products and problem solving/troubleshooting. Additional experience with Linux preferred.
Required Skills:
Mastery of Windows server administration (Active Directory, WSUS, DNS, KMS)
Virtualization (VMware vSphere 5.x + preferred)
Scripting skills (Python/Powershell/Perl/Shell)
Monitoring system administration (Solar Winds/Nagios)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to troubleshoot issues and bring them to resolution
Ability to document technical information for non-technical audiences
Experience supporting internally developed/released applications
Ability to work independently or in a team environment
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks
Flexibility to participate in regular on-call rotation
Ability and willingness to learn new material quickly
Preferred Skills:
Linux (CentOS/Red Hat) server administration
Firewall hardware/software administration (Palo Alto/Checkpoint)
MS SQL Server and/or Postgres DB installation and administration
Imaging procedures and technologies (Acronis, WinPE)
Citrix XenApp administration
Automation tools (Openstack, Puppet, Cobbler, CFEngine, etc.)
Administration and use of Atlassian tools (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence)
Experience with a support desk ticket system (ex. Zendesk, OTRS, JIRA ServiceDesk)
Basic understanding of the Digital Cinema business and technology
