VP of Brand Marketing, DEFY Media

Defy Media is looking for a senior marketing leader to manage, strengthen, and expand our diverse portfolio of digital brands. The family of brands includes Smosh, Clevver, AWE me, the Escapist, Made Man, Prank it FWD, and Break among many others. DEFY has a long history in creating programming brands that are influential to the lives of youth consumers, and this role is crucial as we continue to build the modern media company.
As for the ideal candidate, you are the internet aficionado of your social circle; you've seen, heard and shared content early and often. You understand our consumer because you spend your life as a participant of the world they live in. That doesn't mean our ideal candidate is a hyper connected teen, but someone who can relate with our target consumer and digital audiences. This team leader will be entrenched in internet and pop culture.
We are looking for a builder of brands with the ability to develop and execute on unique, creative and strong ideas that resonate with both our users and clients. You will play an integral role in developing the editorial programs we build, how we integrate our marketing and advertising partners, how we create and build offline extensions and activations. Namely you'll decide how and where we should promote our brands and content.
This position will include managing a team of dedicated and savvy brand leads for our respective sites, channels and brands. This team is charged with, among other things, launching original programming and continuing to build the audience for our established slate which include some of the most popular programs on the internet.
Additionally we need a team leader who can build relationships within our creative team to work hand in hand with the teams creating our content to develop marketing that is grounded in our shows and brands. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding and passion for our content and works tirelessly to build a relationship between our content and the consumer. That may manifest through media, social platforms, connected devices, a live event or even a brilliantly designed t-shirt.
Responsibilities:
Own the ideation and execution of our consumer marketing strategy across our portfolio of brands.
Liaise with internal teams including PR, creative services, editorial and product to execute against the brand vision set forth by your team.
Interface across the organization to build advocacy and support around consumer marketing initiatives and communicate regularly to stakeholders and project owners across the organization.
Present your concepts and plans to senior team members to build internal awareness and advocacy for marketing lead initiatives.
Expand the brand footprint across a variety of platforms for DEFY media's content and brands.
Manage a team brand and social media managers
Build and maintain relationships with external vendors and agencies to help ideate and execute live event activations, creative development and public relations
Develop and maintain a considerable consumer marketing budget
Build digital media plans utilizing both internal and out of house media inventory to drive effective awareness and tune in for our brand and programming
Garner audience and growth for the company's emerging suite of mobile and connected device applications including iOS, Android, Roku and other OTT platforms
Create a regular dashboard for metrics including growth against social media objective and traffic goals delivered and articulated on a regular basis to management and stakeholders across the organization
Required Skills:
Proven track record of building world class brands
Strong leadership spirit with an aim towards results driven marketing benchmarks
You've built great teams and managed loyal and passionate employees
Ability to ideate and execute ideas which break through the noise and then strategizing on how to deliver against them. Strong analytical background with focus on digital metrics and platforms for measurement (Google analytics, comscore, etc…)
Consumer insights experience revealing powerful and actionable information about your target audience and the ability to tap into those insights to build compelling campaigns and programs.
Ability to see a challenge within a growing and nimble organization and take it on as a self starter to drive to a resolution.
Effective leadership presence; you build relationships to become a cross-functional driver
Proven ability to support multiple divisions of a business and present your vision, goals, and tactics senior leadership across the company.
Track record of building scalable operating processes and systems as well as proven success within a performance based marketing environment
BA/BS degree required
