About the Position
Corbis is evolving its business and its products. As such, we’re redesigning our teams and need a highly curious and driven Design Researcher with 5 years of relevant product design experience. This position will help drive, define and refine the user experiences of our products. You will uncover and translate user needs and business requirements, and help the team translate abstract concepts into actionable insights that guide the design of our next-gen products.
Responsibilities include:
• Using formative, generative and summative research methods you will help the team to identify needs of our customers, gaps in current products, and opportunities for the business
• Facilitating and/or leading qualitative and quantitative design research studies along a full spectrum of research activities from Ethnographic investigations to benchmarking, to usability
• Participating in the articulation of user stories, user scenarios, and use cases
• Collaborating with the team to develop prototypes (both low-fidelity paper and rich interactive) for everything from proof of concepts to fine-grained usability and affinity testing
• Advocating for the customer through design
• Maintaining subject matter expertise and professional development through active participation in global and/or local Design Research community groups
• Providing education across the organization on the various evolving design research methods and practices.
• Establishing a world class product design research practice within and for a global organization
• Annotating design systems; analyzing and iterating on live design solutions
• Presenting to and communicating with peers, customers, stakeholders, executives
Qualifications:
• Must have at least 5 years of professional experience of hands-on design research work
• A background in Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology and/or design is preferred
• Is passionate, thorough, reasoned, articulate and demonstrates problem-solving skills
• Is forward thinking and flexible; Comfortable dealing with the ambiguity of an organization in the midst of change
• Works successfully with both minimal supervision and hands-on collaborative leadership
• Must be comfortable switching between projects/products and juggling multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Is familiar with the full complement of design research methods and universal principles of design
• Is used to, and comfortable with, an ever changing landscape (business, technological, organizational)
• Is functional in Adobe Creative Suite.
• Understands the boundaries and constraints of technical implementation of design solutions
• Is fluent with Google Analytics, Omniture and Commscore
• Is familiar with Neilsen and Rentrak
• Is proficient in Axure, Omnigraffle, and other interactive design prototyping tools
• Is tapped into the changing landscape of SEO best practices
• Has experience researching for and within multiple channels, devices, and resolutions
• Has experience with media products, entertainment properties, and ecommerce flows
• Has experience with with faceted search, taxonomy development, and controlled vocabularies
• Has 'depth' of understanding in interaction design and information architecture with 'breadth' in web technologies, psychology and visual design.
• Understands when it's appropriate to follow design patterns, when stretching a pattern is required, or when a pattern should be broken altogether.
• Can identify a boundary, live within it, and is not afraid to break through it.
• Has experience practicing within Agile frameworks and for responsive and mobile first products
• Takes schedules, and deadlines seriously
• Is familiar with Open Source CMS systems such as Drupal
• Has demonstrated project, people and relationship management skills
• Knows how to apply data to design
• Is always looking to learn and grow.
