Purpose:
As Staff Photographer or Videographer, you are responsible for the day to day photographic and video cover on jobs assigned by the Picture Desk, including weekend coverage and 24/7/365 on call coverage. You will communicate regularly with the Picture Desk about pictures and video that are taken and any further details on those sets, to ensure a comprehensive coverage of news and events.
Responsibilities:
• Covering photographic and video assignments locally and and globally as required by the Picture Editor.
• Factual captioning and key wording of all sets of pictures and video.
• Communicating with Picture Desk about any pictures/videos that are taken and any further detail on the stories.
• Acquiring new contributors for the company.
• Keeping up to date on all current news, sports and entertainment stories.
• Acquiring contacts for stories.
• Working closely with other people concerned with the story, such as picture editors, reporters and agreeing the photographic/video requirements for a story.
• Maintaining photographic, computer/laptop and electronic communications equipment.
• Managing the filing of all expenses and other administration on time.
• Responsible for achieving or exceeding operational goals regarding targets and reporting back to the Picture Editor on performance.
• Work on out of town of jobs as assigned.
• Communicate with Photo Desk (i.e., checking in/out) at the direction of your supervisor.
• Adheres to Company policies and processes and participates in training as required.
Contacts:
Daily contact with the Photo Editor, Pictures Desks and Sales Teams.
The ideal candidate must possess:
• 2 years of prior news photography, entertainment, sports or event photography essential.
• Strong interest in current events, news and entertainment coverage;
• Excellent visual-reporting, stills and video camera skills.
• Deadline-oriented; self-motivated and energetic.; excellent verbal and written communication skills; organized; technologically savvy; adaptable; fast learner.
• Highly organized, capable of working without supervision; comfortable working under stress and in often in chaotic, hectic work environments and within short time constraints.
• Must have excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills, strong work ethic and a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
• Must have the ability to react with appropriate urgency to situations and events that require quick responses, and take effective action without knowing the total picture. Relies on experience, independent judgment and pro-active problem solving to plan and accomplish goals.
• You will be required to work out of hours from time to time, and be available in emergencies.
• Must be available to work a flexible rota and shift pattern of work as provided by the Photo Editor.
• Excellent IT and web-based skills: Mac and PC.
• Strong spelling and grammar skills for captioning.
• Proven knowledge and ability to edit sets of pictures.
• Full clean driving license and own vehicle with valid insurance.
