Position Summary
This position will provide legal and administrative support to the Business and Legal Affairs Department in coordination with colleagues and company groups, under the supervision of and reporting directly to Corporate Counsel in the London office.
Corbis seeks a versatile paralegal/legal assistant to join its in-house legal team. The position focuses on transactional, corporate and intellectual property issues. As directed by the supervising corporate counsel, this successful candidate will:
• Anticipate and initiate routine legal tasks
• Draft, review and transmit legal correspondence, contracts, and documents
• Communicate with outside counsel independently and under supervision of corporate counsel
• Coordinate projects or segments and phases of complex projects
• Maintain organized files and matters using case management software
• Work with highly confidential information
• Manage the supervising counsel’s daily calendar, schedules and coordinate meetings and conference calls
• Manage the supervising counsel’s travel from pre-planning to final reimbursement
• Prepare expense reports
• Perform various administrative and clerical duties
Day-to-day focus areas:
• Assistance with creating third-party agreements (in particular IP licences) with customers and vendors. Specific duties include:
• interviewing internal personnel for inclusion in agreements;
• verifying third-party familiarity and compliance with agreement terms;
• drafting agreements for third-party vendors and personnel;
• negotiating minor agreement terms with third parties; and
• escalating non-standard negotiation requests to Corporate Counsel.
• Corporate governance (drafting standard notices and resolution, coordinating corporate approvals process)
• Supporting Corbis EMEA offices (London, Paris, Berlin, Milan) with the particular focus on the French-speaking legal support.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years progressively responsible Paralegal /Legal Assistant experience in a fast-paced legal environment, preferably in both a law firm or a law office and an in-house legal department. Either Bachelor’s degree or CILEX certificate is required; having both is a plus. Experience in any one of the following is required; experience in more than one is a plus: Intellectual Property, Licensing, Contracts Review, Corporate Governance. Demonstrated ability to identify need for and maintain confidentiality is required.
Candidate must have excellent interpersonal, organization, and verbal and written communication skills as well as a highly developed ability to manage a steady stream of information and document requests. Must be a flexible self-starter who is not easily frustrated and is able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy. Must be willing to contribute to the administration of the department, capable of working without supervision, under pressure and within short time constraints. Thorough knowledge of office practices and excellent computer skills using current Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, FrontPage, PowerPoint, Access) as well as proven, extensive experience with databases are essential. Project management experience helpful.
Fluency in English and French is required. Other European language skills are advantageous, but are not required.
