The chosen candidate will help negotiate and draft a wide variety of television production-related contracts and releases including deals to acquire and develop reality, scripted, and digital programming, production contracts, talent agreements, and other agreements for the ancillary exploitation of such programming. This individual, reporting to the SVP of Business and Legal Affairs, will assist in connection with many business and legal aspects of Company’s production and exploitation of programming and will advise and support senior executives and other personnel on production, legal, risks, litigation and rights-related matters.
This position is located in the San Fernado Valley, Los Angeles, California.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Negotiate and draft talent agreements, producer agreements, rights agreements, and other agreements in connection with the development and production of reality and scripted television programming.
• Review programs for clearance and production processes to ensure that company is not at risk for liability
• Work with outside counsel in handling production legal, litigation, copyright and trademark,
music, and rights and clearance matters
• Oversee all corporate and production related insurance matters
•Vet creative write ups for potential programming to assess if any legal risks are present
•Oversee background and psychological checks for potential on air talent
•Handle other general business and legal affairs matters as needed
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• JD required
• Five + years of in depth production legal experience at a network, studio, or television company and/or a law firm, specifically including experience with reality/unscripted television productions
• Experience working on business and legal affairs matters for scripted television productions and digital productions
• Excellent references and academic credentials
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Superior negotiation and legal drafting skills and high level of attention to detail
• Established relationships within the entertainment industry business affairs and legal communities
• Ability to prioritize and manage time, with exceptional organizational skills and a facility with handling a heavy stream of high-priority projects
• Strong initiative to take on tasks and set own priorities and deadlines
• Ability to excel under pressure in a demanding, fast-paced, results-oriented work environment
• Ability to build effective working relationships within and outside the company |
