This is a unique opportunity to start your career in unscripted television development. Executive Producer is seeking a highly motivated, creative, type A personality to work in the trenches with. Together, we will develop and package compelling new programs for digital platforms, cable and broadcast television. This is not a typical situation. A well established, larger production company is financing this operation - and we would essentially operate as an independent entity within this larger organization. If uncomfortable with responsibility and/or working under pressure, this is not for you.
However, if you love television - and the notion of bringing your ideas to life gets your heart racing, maybe this is for you. Analytical thinkers with a strong understanding of storytelling should apply. Those with basic editing skills will have a strong advantage. Not only will there be editing work involved with this position, but I've found that many editors are often excellent storytellers.
I've seen a number of entry level job listings over the years that require a laundry list of skills, with a wage that is in no way commensurate. Worse yet, sometimes these are unpaid internships. Below, I have listed a number of skills and qualities that I feel are desirable for this position - but let me be clear that I am not expecting candidates to check every box. If you can, that's great. Ultimately though, it will still boil down to a gut feeling. We will be working very closely together, and I need to feel as though we will complement one another. I would rather invest the time into teaching someone who I believe has the aptitude, energy, and right mindset for this - over someone who simply has a broad skill set. Also, candidate must be willing to travel for shoots, etc.
Skills:
. Video Editing
. Creative Writing
. Graphic Design
. Music Supervision
. Camera Operation
. Audio Mixing
. Presenting
I want to work with someone who feels like they have something to prove. There are more rejections than successes in this industry, so you need to be resilient. There can't be any quit in you. That will to keep pushing is imperative. You need to be open minded and willing to learn, however, I want you to have your own opinions. If you believe in something, fight for it.
