The Role:
Paralegal supporting the Business and Legal Affairs department- reporting to the Head of Business and Legal Affairs.
Responsibilities:
Act as liaison between Legal Dept. other departments (A&R, Branding, Finance, Marketing, PR, etc.) business partners, distributors, licensors and licensees, and outside counsel, artists' attorneys and managers.
Prepare draft agreements for various divisions (records, publishing, management, branding & partnerships, etc.)
Prepare and maintain a variety of internal reports, content charts and filing lists.
Draft contract summaries and distribute to appropriate personnel.
Preparation of redlines; review and summarize third party redlines.
Maintain department calendar, including contract effective and termination dates, and contractual payment due dates.
Manage the internal approval process, drafting memos, securing signatures as needed.
Legal research with focus on intellectual property issues.
Prepare NDAs.
Prepare and track Cease and desist letters.
Contract management/tracking/filing.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and Paralegal Certification preferred.
Minimum of 3 - 5 years of solid experience, preferably in the entertainment and music industry
Strong knowledge of music and streaming agreements, licensing, issues and transactions
Strong licensing negotiation experience.
Strong knowledge and love of popular music and music industry
Strong computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Entourage, DeltaView and Databases)
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Strong attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness of work product
Strong interpersonal skills, team oriented yet a self-starter able to take initiative, think creatively and work independently
Excellent organization and time management skills
Ability to handle high volume work, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Ability to establish processes/systems and streamline current processes/systems.
Ability to respond to emails and handle matters after work hours and on the weekend (if requested).
