Freelance General Market Entertainment Publicist (Film experience desired, TV experience a must)
Our agency is a full-service, boutique consumer public relations agency with offices in Los Angeles and New York. Our expertise spans media and community relations, publicity, events, grassroots/experiential marketing, online/social media, sponsorship development and activation, and crisis communications.
We are looking for a freelance general market entertainment publicist with robust TV experience.
The freelance publicist will be in daily contact with the media (strategizing, pitching, PR reports, organizing interview schedules, among other duties. The publicist will also be a key contact to our clients in the TV, film and digital space, to ensure that their goals are met in securing and identifying publicity opportunities. They will be responsible for securing national and regional media placements. The candidate will work collaboratively with a senior team.
We're looking for someone who is proactive, professional and creative. Ideal candidates will have strong entertainment contacts (national, regional, traditional and digital), be self-directed, able to work in fast-paced environment and confident in dealing with clients, serving as day-to-day account contact and pitching trade, business and consumer media outlets.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Client Relations:
• Participate in client meetings and presentations
• Provide basic client counsel
Media Relations:
• Interaction with entertainment media, and journalists and editors responsible for stories
• Pitch clients to national and regional media
• Draft media relations materials
• Generate story ideas and topic angles
• Understand industry issues that directly and indirectly affect the client
• Demonstrate knowledge of target media and ability to garner quality coverage
• Participate in and provide support for press days, media tours, desk side briefings, etc.
• Monitor media outlets for coverage of client news and competitor developments
Writing/Content Development:
• Develop and write press releases, custom pitches and other press materials
• Proof and edit client related documents as needed
• Create strategic and tactical PR and communications plans
Team Interaction:
• Balance workload between accounts and account staff to ensure that all work is accurate and completed within established deadlines
• Continually communicate with manager
• Talk intelligently about agency at internal and external meeting and industry functions
• Attend agency staff meetings and group meetings
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in public relations and communications or related field
• 5+ years PR experience in Film & TV (TV experience a must)
• Ability to work well in a team environment and execute programs
• Superior time management and organization skills
• Attention to detail and quality control of ideas, client correspondence, plans, and press materials
• Strong relationships with general business, consumer, and entertainment trade press/analyst/blogger communities
• Strong relationships with key media contacts across all mediums (Print, Radio, TV, and Online)
• Proven successes in both traditional and digital PR channels
• Excellent communication & presentation skills
• Ability to meet deadlines
Salary:
Hourly or project based; commensurate with experience.
Timing:
June-December 2017 (Approximate 20 hours a week, working from the LA-based office).
