Full Time Job
We are looking for a multi-talented Director of Circulation to lead subscriber acquisition and retention strategies in both digital and print for a leading Hollywood trade media company.
Key objectives include driving new subscriptions and subscriber revenue, maximizing customer retention, developing creative ways to enhance the subscription offering, and managing all special projects and programs in support of these initiatives. This direct marketing and circulation executive will also oversee newsstand sales; the publication's relationship with fulfillment house and customer service; the print order process; and the distribution of the print publication globally.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, independent starter who is able to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously. Our Director of Circulation requires significant versatility as the role requires strategic and creative thinking, operational savvy, attention to detail, and analytical skills. The ideal candidate will be very comfortable working with and analyzing data to identify trends and opportunities.
This role reports to the company's SVP of Operations and interfaces regularly with VP Marketing, VP Finance, Publisher, Associate Publisher, Product Management and the entire production team. In addition, the Director of Circulation will have 1 direct report to focus on subscription sales and can leverage marketing organization on a project basis.
Direct Marketing Responsibilities
• Develop short-term and long-term strategies, goals, and initiatives in support of customer acquisition and retention
• Identify and develop programs to reach and engage prospective customers through a wide range of direct marketing channels, with an emphasis on digital channels.
• Conduct ongoing testing and optimization of new customer acquisition.
• Optimize website to maximize opportunity to acquire new customers.
• Develop targeted programs and packaging for key potential corporate customers
• Develop affinity and loyalty programs to enhance retention and acquisition
• Develop marketing & database projects to generate prospect lists, provide segmentation, and track conversions.
• Evaluate and manage cost-effective off-line acquisition strategies
• Identify potential partners to drive 3rd party acquisition and refer potential customers
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting is available on retention and acquisition on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, including source analysis.
• Coordinate and attend acquisition efforts at external events, trade shows and other events
Circulation Management Responsibilities
• Work with vendor to create, review and approve all print orders, requalification efforts, business reply cards and inserts keeping company goals and initiatives in mind
• Act as point of contact for external fulfillment house/customer service
• Work with fulfillment house and printer to facilitate shipping, and ensure product is labeled and packaged appropriately.
• Manage all magazine distribution requests including shipments to markets and festivals globally
• Lead audit certification efforts, and facilitate needs from all parties for annual audits and formal reviews of the publication by BPA and USPS
Key Requirements
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree a plus
• 5+years relevant direct marketing experience, preferably in a publishing environment
• Team oriented, energetic and an innovative thinker with ability to work in a fast-paced environment a must.
• Must be extremely web savvy, with knowledge of the digital media space
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task and excellent organizational skills
• Ability to own project/processes and be accountable for successful execution and delivery of final product
• Ability to work closely with publishing, marketing, sales, and customer support teams
• Ability to think strategically, see the big picture and understand what needs to be communicated
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to think critically
• Ability to deliver recommendations based on data and analysis
