Assistant/Right Hand to Culinary Entrepreneur
Culinary entrepreneur, Restauranteur, and NY Times bestselling author with an increasingly busy schedule is in search of a highly motivated, reliable, friendly, full-time Executive/Culinary Assistant with keen multi-tasking skills. Role provides tremendous opportunity for growth within the company.
You might be a great fit if:
• You make keeping a master company calendar look easy! This is the most important responsibility of this position. Organization is key! The assistant must ALWAYS be on top of scheduling appointments, booking travel, keeping the kitchen stocked, keeping everyone informed on all current projects and ensuring that everyone is prepared for meetings, etc.
• You're interested in providing top-notch culinary and administrative support with an ''I can do anything'' attitude for an ''I can do anything'' - chef and the team and ever-growing brand/business.
• You love the idea of working around (and can taste) healthier versions of Mainstream American Comfort Food
• You would be excited spending portions of workdays assisting in all stages of recipe development, from creating to writing to testing, prepping and cooking food for tastings and shoots, assisting with food styling, running nutritional analysis (in a program for which you will receive training), grocery shopping and…Baking. Baking. Baking. Did we mention, baking? - (We actually do way more cooking than baking, but our savory dishes require the precision of baking, so please don't apply if measuring AND logging EVERY ingredient, EVERY finished dish, etc. sounds like a burden).
• You live within reasonable distance of Manhattan Beach, California - where our Office/Test Kitchen Studio is located - and can easily adopt/thrive in our work hard/play hard environment.
• You couldn't imagine leaving the kitchen at the end of the day if it's not spotless. (If doing dishes is beneath you, please do not apply!).
• You would embrace admin duties such as interfacing with publicists and managers, clients and reporters, assisting in execution of social media outreach (including participating in brainstorming sessions and writing articles), creating fan contests, submitting chef's expense reports, obtaining samples of food and kitchen tools, etc.
• Your lifestyle allows you a very flexible schedule, including some travel. You will by no means be on call 24/7, but the nature of the job requires that your schedule is flexible enough to easily allow for your workdays to be shifted as needed (if we have to be NBC studios at 6am on a Sunday (on very rare occasion), you do too (within reasonable industry protocol). Assistant will be required to accompany the Entrepreneur to Europe for one week in October, as well as to the east coast for one week in November, and to Europe again in 2015 and 2016, among various other domestic trips.
• Everyone who knows you would agree that you are very detail-oriented!
Did we mention that impeccable organization is key? - There is no getting around that. If you're a Type-A that always who is clearly ''there'' for your team, and you like to go go go, you will thrive in this environment…and will have great opportunity for advancement. When you're present you must be 110% engaged in the projects at hand. You will not have time to check your personal email, facebook, and will need to respect our ''no cell phones in the kitchen while cooking'' policy. In fact, given the nature of the work, there will be times where you be away from your cell phone for multiple hours.
Requirements:
• AT LEAST one year in ANY of: Full-time production office, a legitimate media-related Test Kitchen, on the desk of a top agent, at a top-tier PR firm, in a restaurant kitchen, or another extremely fast-paced, creative environment.
• Must have cooked your entire life OR in a professional environment for at least one year
• Proven ability to multi-task and problem solve.
• The ability to and interest in following recipes impeccably.
• Must be committed to living a healthy lifestyle (this does NOT mean you need to be a size 2).
• Must be very friendly, professional and feel comfortable working on a set or by yourself in addition to collaborating with the team.
• Must have RELIABLE transportation - if you don't have a car, you can't do the job as duties include going to the grocery store, mailing packages from time to time, etc.
• Must be available to start immediately (upon giving your current employer, if applicable, standard 2 weeks notice).
• Must be able to provide at least 2 professional references upon submitting your application.
• Must be social media savvy
• Demonstration of creativity is a definite plus, as is food styling experience.
