CITY OF TORRANCE

Pay Range: Starting pay is $17.16/hr (step 1) with advancement based on performance
Position Overview:
Torrance CitiCABLE is our city's award-winning government access cable television channel, which has provided quality television programming for the community since 1983. Programming includes live coverage of weekly City Council meetings, along with weekly news on ''This Week in Torrance.'' CitiCABLE programming has something for everyone, from business to youth, from seniors to teens.
The City of Torrance is seeking an experienced television producer with exceptional news writing and producing skills, and an on-camera presence, to write and produce a weekly news program along with producing a range of other shows including documentaries, feature stories, profiles and news stories for the City.
Candidate Profile (includes requirements and ideal attributes):
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Two years of college coursework in journalism, technical or non-fiction writing, television production or a related field; and six months of experience in a commercial, non-commercial, educational or governmental channel or station.
License and Certification:
A valid California Class C driver's license.
Ideal Experience:
- Degree in Broadcast Journalism.
- Demonstrates experience in all areas of television production from coordinating shoots to writing scripts and hosting regularly scheduled programs.
- Experience reading from a teleprompter.
- Experience ad-libbing on-camera on a wide range of topics.
- Understanding of sourcing, developing and presenting public information.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact with news subjects, audiences, City staff and officials and local dignitaries.

Only those candidates most qualified will be invited to participate in the examination process. This will consist of:
Supplemental Application (qualifying)
Performance Exam (weighted 40%)
Oral Exam (weighted 60%)
