Reporting to the Technical Director and working in tandem with the Artistic Director, you will be required to:
- Maintain the artistic integrity of sound design;
- Manage all aspects of sound related to the show;
- Maintain and update of the show sound records, maintenance log, system updates and sound archives;
- Supervise sound personnel;
Functions:
- Manage and supervise all sound department operations;
- Operate the sound console during performances and rehearsals;
- In cooperation with the Sound Designer, implement changes in the show concept;
- Work closely with the Musical Conductor and band members;
- Ensure safety and security of sound installations at all times;
- Ensure that sound and technical staff (Cirque and temporary employees) adhere to standards and regulations pertaining to the safety of sound equipment and comply with safe working methods;
- Supervise and train sound technicians;
- Inspect and maintain all sound equipment, and keep records of inspections and modifications;
- Update the sound archives, inventory, technical documentation and customs documentation;
- Conduct research and order or purchase new and/or replacement equipment in cooperation with International Headquarters (IHQ);
- Coordinate activities and supervise personnel during the setup and tear-down of the sound equipment;
- Ensure that sound equipment is set up properly and consistent with the show concept;
- Assist with setup and tear-down;
- Assist the Technical Director with hiring new sound staff, managing departmental budgets and producing capital expense projections;
- Work with IHQ on any technical issue;
- Attend departmental meetings;
- Carry out all other tasks requested by the Technical Director.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- College diploma (or equivalent) in live entertainment, theatre production, sound technology or electronics (or equivalent work experience);
- Six to eight years' experience as a sound technician with a minimum of three years as a live mix engineer using wireless sound technology;
- Technical knowledge of sound equipment;
- Good general understanding of all technical aspects of a show;
- Personnel management experience;
- Knowledge of Microsoft software for Window;
- Flexibility, autonomy, team player;
- Good communication skills;
- Ability to handle contingencies and work well under pressure;
- Ability to work high above the ground (climbing abilities an asset);
- Fluency in spoken and written English is essential, fluency in French is an asset;
- Available to tour full time and to work in foreign countries.
