Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Prerecorded Services / Manager of Prerecorded-Burbank, responsible for training new hires, mentoring current staff, documentation creation and maintenance, and development of internal resources on captioning, subtitling, and proofing processes.
General Criteria: Willingness and ability to teach others. Exceptional communication skills. Troubleshooting and problem solving ability and familiarity with technology. Eagerness to learn. Captioning experience and expertise.
Responsibilites: include but are not limited to:
• Train new hires to use Swift Line 21, on the basics of the captioning process, and on the specifics of CaptionMax's house style
• Set up appropriate practice projects for new hires to work on
• Track the progress of new hires over the first 3 months to contribute information to supervisor's evaluation of whether they are a good fit
• Train existing staff to use Swift Open, MacCaption, and other advanced export tools
• Train senior captioners in the process and theory of proofing and certify them as proofers
• Proof captioned programs for accuracy and conformity to CaptionMax standards and provide thorough constructive feedback to the captioner and/or proofer
• Assist other proofers in improving the quality of their feedback to captioners
• Troubleshoot problems with and fix errors in caption and subtitle files, generally in tandem with the staff who created the file
• Work with the supervisors to schedule mentoring with all captioning staff members in order to provide an opportunity for continuous improvement
• Create quality performance goals, which will be implemented by supervisors
• Coordinate ongoing QC and certification process, ensuring appropriate projects are scheduled quarterly for evaluation
• Define, produce, and maintain training documents, training videos, manuals, and style guides
• Provide product education to other departments, such as sales and administration
• Caption and subtitle as needed
• Represent and implement company goals and interests
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Ability to express technical information in layman's terms
• Thorough knowledge of CaptionMax's captioning standards and style
• Expertise in the effective use of Swift L21 and Swift Open
• Familiarity with all common closed caption and subtitle exports

• Calm, approachable, open-minded, detail-oriented
