Description of duties
• This professional provides maintenance, installation and user support in all technical areas of a of a 24x7x365 news and/or entertainment production environment .
• Performs hardware/equipment/peripherals support for TV broadcasting systems including control rooms, studios, Technical Operations Centers, cameras and feeds/edit systems, along with desktop PCs, telecommunications equipment, newsroom and automation systems, and data and LAN infrastructure.
• Monitor and adjust broadcast systems to meet accepted broadcast standards using diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, audio/data analyzers, and other equipment.
• Perform equipment and systems installation, problem correction, removal/replacement, or other tasks as necessary to ensure continuation of customer work productivity and/or on-air transmission.
• Perform component-level repair and calibration of broadcast equipment (cameras, routers, switchers, VTRs, audio mixers, video monitors, lighting and field gear, etc.).
• Perform board-level repair of computing equipment (motherboards, interface cards, hard drives, etc.).
• Participate on broadcast technology design or redesign projects with complex, leading-edge technology in an increasingly digital environment.
• Document quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials, and project work.
• May participate on server/network installation projects as required.
• May be required to attend manufacturer-provided broadcast training from Sony, AVID, Thomson, etc.
Position Qualifications
• Have typically four or more years experience in television working in a broadcast maintenance capacity, with a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair broadcast and computer equipment.
• Demonstrate the expertise necessary to analyze and solve complex technical problems.
• Exhibit exceptional customer service skills with attention to detail.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills in order to convey pertinent information with customers, peers, and vendors.
• Demonstrate the ability to work in a team based environment to ensure 24x7x365 support for our customers.
• Be a demonstrated self-starter and show interest in accomplishing goals and developing new strategies.
• Possess a two or four year technical degree, preferably in electronics or computer engineering, or have equivalent education/experience/training.
• Be able to work a rotating shift in support of a 24x7x365 broadcast facility. (Shift schedules may vary between bureaus and will include weekends and holidays.)
• Demonstrate exemplary organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a high-stress environment.
• Demonstrate experience with studio television production methods. • Understand how a sense of urgency in solving customer requests and ensuring a timely resolution to problems is essential to job success.
• Be familiar with basic server and networking topology.
• Possess a willingness to learn Turner/CNN proprietary equipment and applications.
• Familiarity with network components and client configuration
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office
• Demonstrate knowledge of computer desktop hardware and applications. Specific certifications may be required to work on proprietary equipment/systems.
