Duties: This position oversees the daily content creation process for all CNN platforms. The Sr. Producer is the editorial and production process liaison between Image+Sound, newsgathering and the various business units. They are also key editorial decision makers who are well versed in file-based production environments and their associated workflows. They are entrusted with protecting the CNN brand and are responsible for ensuring the editorial priorities are delivered on a daily basis. In addition, Sr. Producers are small group people leaders for various positions within Image+Sound and lead the day-to-day activities of positions within I+S, including but not limited to Editor/Producers, Cross Platform Producers, Media Coordinators, Content Coordinators, Production Assistants and other Image+Sound staff. The Sr. Producer is heavily involved in the hiring process for their functional area as well as administering staff performance and development. The small teams range from 3 - 14 employees.
The Sr. Producer will ensure expectations are met and staff meet the business needs and expectations of CNN Image+Sound and partners including but not limited to: CNN, CNNI, HLN, CNNE, and their digital extensions. Interacts with managements of multiple networks/business units on a regular basis regarding production needs and a variety of workflow, programming and priority assessments. Day-to-day oversight of the staff's quality of work, SOP and workflow to meet business needs is key to the success of the Sr. Producer. All Sr. Producers are expected to provide regular feedback to those I+S employees that they interact with on a consistent basis. This position is key to daily production, as well as management of the designated small group. Regardless of role, the Sr. Producer is expected to be mobile in the execution of their duties. Personnel and performance management - active participation in the recruiting and hiring process. Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings. Guides employees' editorial, production and professional development. Provide frequent feedback on daily work of staff, coaching and developmental guidance. Video Production & Editorial Oversight: Ensure smooth production by providing appropriate solutions to daily production challenges, provide leadership & direction to staff. Produce (write, edit, etc.) content as needed and to continue to improve their own production skills. Partner Communication & Interaction; issue resolution, story & content ideas - Attend daily production meetings. Contribute to how stories are produced, angles that can be covered and generates ideas for story concepts. Works with platform partners to improve how content is presented. Functional Business Analytics - track and manage the work produced by the staff for time spent, usage and value to the company. There are approximately 15 Sr. Producers working 24x7x365. Schedules and shifts are subject to change. Flexibility will be required. The position supports the partners from the EPIC workspace, edit area and newsroom Superdesk location.
Qualifications: Minimum experience requirements include: Four (4) years within news production or related field demonstrating frontline editorial decision making for content production,
Two (2) years leadership experience within current role, projects, company organizations or other teams, thorough understanding of production workflows and file-based systems; including producing and editing skills, proven communication and problem solving skills, experience in mentoring, coaching or leading others, understanding of usage rights, both on air and online and understanding of digital trends, social media and content management. Desirable experience requirements include: Previous experience as a Cross Platform Producer, Assignment Editor, Editor/Producer, Show Team Producer; Show team and control room experience, Producer level title at multiple networks or online units, writing skills - feedback and review writing as well as tv/web writing, advanced editing skills - FCP, Adobe Premiere, Avid, career guidance and coaching,
Foreign language skills, particularly proficiency in Spanish, is valued, and demonstrated team player - focused on the success of the company, department and staff. Educational requirements include: Bachelors degree (typically in liberal arts such as journalism, English, political science) or similar demonstrated on the job experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis. Preferred education, training, licensing or certification (not required) include: Proficient in the use of MediaSource 2, MIRA, iNews, CNN Images, Adobe proxy edit, CMS, MS Outlook, NewsDesk, Newstron or similar production tools.
