What role will you play?
The BIT Field Engineer possesses the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to setup and operate a satellite newsgathering ''SNG'' truck in a fast paced, 24X7X365 field newsgathering and production environment.
He/she also has the knowledge to make repairs and maintain preventive maintenance on broadcast equipment.
Extended travel often on short notice is required.
What will you be doing?
Operates the satellite truck on location; expert in all aspects of satellite newsgathering and Live remote Television production.
Responsible for the initial production set up on location, including strategic placement, technical assessment, cable runs, satellite acquisition and all manner of television production technical setup.
Collaborates with the team of reporters, producers, and photojournalists on location; will interface with both Editorial and Operational staff on the CNN desk, provides solutions oriented, creative technical guidance
CNN trucks are multi-path mobile studios requiring individual Engineers to be well versed in all phases/systems onboard their trucks of including cameras, switchers, routers, audio, uplink and specialized broadcast systems , LIVE U, COFDM, MIMO and new wireless technologies.
Performs both major and minor maintenance of broadcast and uplink equipment on the truck and for the truck itself.
While not on assignment, performs maintenance, repairs and installation of broadcast equipment at the DC Bureau and outside broadcast locations such as those on Capitol Hill, the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department and others.
What do we need from you?
2 or 4 year technical degree, preferably electronics or computer engineering (or equivalent education/experience/training) with typically 4 or more years' experience in satellite truck operation, including troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of satellite, TV broadcast and studio systems.
Hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or able to get a license within one year's time.
Ability to travel on short notice for extended time period on domestic remote assignments
Demonstrated ability to work in a team based environment to ensure 24X7X365 support for our customers
Ability to operate in a professional and diplomatic manner at all times.
Versatility and willingness to perform varied tasks as required on field assignments
Able to work independently and autonomously on location, while at the same time collaborate well with the Editorial and Operations staff in the field.
Demonstrated competency with computing hardware and applications to ensure complete technical support in the field - Strong verbal, and proficient written communication skills
Able to lift and move equipment weighing 30 lbs or more
