Senior Legal Counsel - 6 Month Maternity Cover
Responsibilities This is a 6 month maternity cover and the role is to manage business and legal affairs for all aspects of CNBC Asia Pacific, reporting to the VP & Head of Business & Legal Affairs, CNBC International, based in London. The role demands a high level of confidence and skill in balancing the commercial needs of the business whilst protecting CNBC's legal interests. Qualifications/Requirements Commercial Matters
The negotiation, documentation and/or contractual review relating to all activities of the business, including channel/content distribution agreements, licensing agreements, advertising sales agreements and services agreements. Ability to prioritise efficiently, and communicate regularly and appropriately with other departments is essential.
Editorial and Regulatory
A keen understanding of the requirements of the Singapore MDA Codes (and equivalent codes/concepts in other Asian territories and/or the Ofcom Broadcasting Code in the UK) in relation to programming, advertising and sponsorship – particularly as they relate to the editorial independence of news channels. Promptly and accurately answering questions that are raised by the editorial team.
Business Development
Support the Business Development team with renewals of existing partnerships and joint ventures, and assist in the drafting and negotiation of new partnerships and content syndication deals across the APAC region.
Management / Leadership
The role has two direct reports and you will be responsible for managing and developing the CNBC Asia Pacific Legal team.
Dispute Resolution
Support the Head of Business & Legal Affairs when resolving potential or actual disputes.
Compliance
Ensure compliance with laws and regulatory requirements in Asia (including broadcasting laws, anti-corruption laws and competition laws), implement internal policies, and provide assistance and training to facilitate compliance with such laws, regulations and policies. Working with NBCUniversal Government Relations team to identify advocacy areas in the region.
Intellectual property
An understanding of concepts of copyright such as ''fair dealing / ''fair use'' and being able to advise the editorial teams on questions that are raised. Safeguard the business' IP rights and brands (including trademarks and trade names).
Finance/Tax
Provide finance/tax assistance as required, in conjunction with the finance teams.
Company Secretarial
Management of local entities' corporate secretarial needs in Asia in conjunction with Company Secretarial team in London.
General Advice
Provide prompt, accurate and practical legal and commercial counsel to business teams as required.
External counsel
Engagement and supervision of outside counsel as required.
