Content Editor (6 months Contract)
Responsibilities CNBC is looking for a driven and dynamic content editor who will work at the heart of the editorial team that updates CNBC.com, ensuring that news stories, features, graphics and video captions are of top quality and error free, all within tight deadlines.
• Act as the main copy editor of Asia Pacific content on CNBC.com, ensuring that the site's news stories, features, video captions, graphics and social media posts have eye-catching headlines and titles, seamless copy, are error free and published in a timely manner.
• Use your knowledge of social media to spot the posts, tweets and snaps most relevant to CNBC.com and be confident in knowing when and how to use them on the site
• Use a bespoke content management system to produce content for CNBC.com
• Turn your hand occasionally to writing stories on a variety of subjects, including financial markets, business and geopolitical trends, and economic data
• Keep a cool head during breaking news events, working with our social media producers to ensure the key information is on the site and social media platforms ahead of competitors, while staying within legal and ethical guidelines
• Act as a ''hot-seater'' for CNBC.com when required, using strong editorial judgment and your knowledge of business, financial, economic and political news to select content from wire services and our media partners around the world
• When required, commission content from in-house reporters and freelancers and coordinate content production to ensure website is updated at all times
• Remain in close communication with television producers to ensure coordination of TV and digital content Qualifications/Requirements • Strong copy-editing skills that hold up under tight deadlines, with an excellent grip of grammar and the ability to spot errors and typos
• In-depth knowledge of the content and subject material covered on CNBC and a strong interest in financial markets and economics
• Previous experience in curating a news website or hot-seating or hot-desking at a wire service preferred
• Ability to multi-task and remain calm in a fast-paced news environment
• Ability to work within a team and with diverse departments across several countries to ensure smooth-running web site that is 100 percent accurate
• Excellent verbal communication skills, coupled with strong research and writing skills
• Demonstrated self-starter, with the confidence to make decisions quickly while under pressure
• Familiar with major social media platforms
• Write English to a strong native standard
• Experience with working on content management systems
• Experience working for a leading wire service or business news website
