Responsibilities Camera Operator / Video Editors are responsible for recording and editing proprietary footage (video, audio and graphics) into a finished product suitable for broadcast on our digital/mobile platforms and TV channel, or for external distribution.
This can include:
- Shooting material for use in edited packages
- Editing news and features material (interviews, packages, picture sequences, etc) primarily for digital channels
- Providing creative briefs and working closely with a small unit to brainstorm unique and innovative story-telling approaches
- Editing, quality controlling and mastering material for external distribution
- Providing ad-hoc editing services to other departments as required
- Responsible for maintaining clear curatorial oversight of footage
The role may include shift work. Qualifications/Requirements KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Creative and expert camera operation
- Editing a variety of news and feature items in an entertaining and informative manner
- Liaising closely with the digital content team on graphics and visual content
- Quality assurance of edited material pre broadcast on multimedia platforms and ensuring that all work is completed to a high technical multi-formatted standard
- Strong creative input into material produced
- Ensuring all items make their allocated deadlines
- Liaising with newsroom, digital and commercial colleagues as required

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
- Experience of working as a camera-operator, ideally in a television news environment
- Knowledge of the general systems, practices and broadcast standards within a wider news/operational environment
- Experience of working as a non-linear video editor with fast, adaptable non-linear editing skills; experience in long-form craft editing would be useful
- Excellent sense of pace and timing
- Ability to present material creatively; experience of motion graphics software (After Effects/Apple Motion) desirable
- Skills to edit creative or meaningful sequences from available footage
- Aptitude to interpret and effectively communicate ideas, i.e. visualize and express written words in pictures and sound to achieve producers or journalists' vision
- Ability to work closely and constructively with other team members across the editorial team, as well independently when required and demonstrating sound judgment on shot and audio selection
- Ability to work calmly and effectively in extremely stressful time critical situations
- Detailed oriented and high level of computer literacy; excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Flexible and prepared to learn new skills, embrace and nurture a culture of change and positive attitude
