Full Time Unpaid Internship
CBSSports.com is looking for a sharp, motivated Business Intelligence intern in New York. The role requires someone with the ability to effectively lead projects, interact directly with the business community, and perform very hands-on technical analysis work. The business unit you'll work in runs many leading sports websites including CBSSports.com, CBSSports.com College Network and MaxPreps.com. The team and company are both exceptional. Candidates should have a proven track record and keen interest in the following areas:
Interest and ability to take on highly technical analyses, which require researching, prototyping, presenting, and ultimately providing decision support services and actionable insights to the business
Leading discussions with the business community to truly get to the heart of their business needs
Distilling end user discussions down into a set of concise analyses requirements
Design and perform detailed analyses to help deepen understanding of customer activity across all digital platforms including web, mobile, connected devices, and video subscription services. Techniques may include statistical analyses, mathematical models (conversions, churn, and retention), experiments (A/B testing), optimization, data mining, predictive analytics, data investigation, visualization, and reporting
Effectively communicate and 'translate' quantitative findings (storytelling with data), make and defend meaningful conclusions and recommendations, identify and interpret trends and relationships to product and business stakeholders
Leverage technology to create visualizations to make data easily accessible across the organization; educate colleagues on cutting-edge trends and industry developments
Identify and synthesize secondary research to complement primary research
Contribute to the enhancement of the overall Business Intelligence team by participating in group events, developing and sharing knowledge, and helping to cultivate a continuous learning and supportive esprit-de-corps.
Sample analyses you might lead or participate in include:
Arming the editorial staff with data insights, so they can best focus their time covering the areas of highest user interest
Creating reports that spotlight the lifetime value of a person that downloaded a native app (iOS or Android)
Projecting the potential audience size that may be interested in a new type of paid content product by modeling conversion rates for existing audience segments
Field and answer client-group initiated, traffic-related, and traditional subscription product (i.e. fantasy games) requests. Client groups include Executives, Sales, Marketing, Product, Editorial, Finance, etc.
Spotlight insights and recommended solutions for audience, demographics, and consumption-related requests using internal web analytics (Omniture) and syndicated products (comScore, industry sources)
Analyze registration, purchase, in-game analyses product crossover, upsell opportunities, retention rates (Tableau)
Proactively analyze traffic trends and what works/ doesn't work during certain sport seasons/ sport events
Present insights and make recommendations to executives derived from success-event tracking for a subscription video product
Build dashboards and reports that illustrate the fall-out rate of customers as they engage in a product purchase funnel. Make recommendations to the business from the data. Test hypotheses using A/B and multivariate testing tools.
Qualifications:
Minimum Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Math, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent quantitative field
2 years of relevant working experience (in a similar role) with strong technical analytical ability and data mining skills
Experience querying large, complex, and raw data sets in Teradata/Hive/Hadoop databases (or similar environments)
Proficient in web analytics (Omniture, Google Analytics) and 3rd party syndicated audience measurement services (comScore, Nielsen)
Experience in web/video analytics and subscription services highly preferred
Excellent statistical intuition, application, and knowledge of various predictive analytics/statistical modeling
Strong detail-orientation with a penchant for data accuracy
Exceptional communicator across all levels of the organization; able to effectively present data and 'translate' findings for a non-technical audience; possesses the executive presence to successfully liaise with senior leadership team members
Proven ability to learn quickly, work independently, and adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
Exemplary relationship builder who is consultative in nature and able to quickly form partnerships with colleagues and customers

The candidate must also be a good communicator, smart, flexible, a quick learner, exceptionally high quality work, effective self-QA capabilities, and a team player. Ideal candidate will accelerate the ability of CBS Sports to bridge the gap between ''what we have always analyzed'' and ''what we need to analyze in an increasingly digital and interactive world.'' They will further drive the need for powerful tools to combine, process, transform and analyze data from multiple channels into in an effort to generate whole-business insights and recommendations.
Additional Requirements:

- You must have at least one academic semester left after Summer 2016
- Must be at least 18 years old
