Full Time Unpaid Internship
The CNET News editorial intern will report to the news editors and assist with news coverage. This includes helping to report, research and write breaking news and long-form journalism, including features, industry analyses, company and personality profiles, Q&As, and financial earnings. The editorial intern will also help the staff by monitoring newswires, competitors' sites and social media to identify trends and formulate news stories. The goal will be to have our intern get a sense of the complete newsroom experience.
Role Responsibilities:
• Work with reporters and editors to research and write original stories. This will include stories that interns write on their own, as well stories for which they will share a co-byline or get a ''with reporting by'' credit
• Write general assignment news stories on a daily basis
• Write a long-form feature that will require 2-3 weeks of reporting work
• Work with copydesk on headlines, desk and copy editing
• Work with copydesk to check for breaking news
• Photograph and write a photo slideshow
• Create a video component to go along with at least one of the intern's stories
• Spend time on social – helping to promote our stories via our existing social channels or investigating new places we should be promoting our work
• Work on an earnings story with a reporter to get an understanding of the earnings process
• Contribute to the magazine by helping edit/fact check stories and/or writing a piece for the Winter issue
Logistics:
• Time commitment: full-time, 40 hours per week during our regular office hours (Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm) but times may vary per team
• This is a paid internship and can also be for university credit if it meets your university's guidelines
Qualifications:
• Working towards a Master's degree in Journalism
• A passion for writing and reporting
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Skilled in building successful relationships internally and externally
• Ability to work and adapt to change in a fast paced environment
• Flexible, open minded and forward thinking
• Willing and open to learning and to new ideas
• Ability to work independently and take initiative but also work well with coworkers in a team environment
• Internet savvy and passionate about digital media
Additional Requirements:
• Intern must be a student currently enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university
• Must be at least 18 years old
