Full Time Unpaid Internship
We are pleased to offer students the opportunity to apply for our internship program at our station. Located in Milwaukee, we offer a variety of internship programs in several areas within news broadcasting. Internships will be held at the station located at 809 S. 60th Street, Milwaukee, WI. Internships require a commitment of 20 hours per week. Interns will receive an hourly rate of pay. Please specify your area(s) of interest.
We offer various internship opportunities in the following areas:
Assignment Desk:
Intern would help make daily phone calls and help reporters with scheduling their assignments; would also help make calls, research for our sweeps/special projects stories, set up daily stories, comb through social media sites for potential stories, as well as search for potential spotlight interviews for our CBS 58 Sunday Morning. Additionally you would book our 4 pm interviews. and help post news content to our website. This person would learn how to organize contacts, use the state court records system (CCAP) for news purposes, improve their phone skills, and write for the website.
Video Production:
Intern would take on the project of moving all of our tape video archives to a digital format. This would require learning how to attach names and subjects to video files and transfer them into proper formats. The Intern would work our Systems Manager to achieve the projects.
Producer Assistant:
Intern would help the producer with the daily newscast. This would include helping write Voice Overs and VOSOTs that photographers shoot in the field. Responsible for booking in-studio interviews, ordering graphics, and searching for daily story ideas by looking through papers and social media. Additionally would also learn how to stack a rundown.
Web content:
Intern would create daily content for the website and social media, including posting scripts as well as videos. Additionally would research and find stories online and post stories to web, copy edit reporter scripts, keep track of the competition, as well as monitor numbers on Twitter and Facebook.
