General Job Description:
Live and work in the city that US News ranks as one of the top three up and coming places to live in the US. WDJT-TV the CBS station serving Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin is looking for an experienced Political/State Capitol Reporter to cover Legislature in Madison, local and national politics. We need a political junkie here who will hold the powerful accountable and know how to relate to the voter. We need someone who will break stories on this beat and not follow the media pack. Wisconsin is the home of Walker, Ryan, Johnson, Baldwin and Priebus. President Trump loves to visit this state and you can make this your home.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Handle assignments or evaluates the news value of political news leads, news tips to develop broadcast and digital content.
Have a clear understanding of libel law and is able to flag potential legal issues to others.
Organize material, determine slant or emphasis and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
Must be able to shoot and edit your stories when needed.
Generates work that is fair, balanced and accurate.
Gives live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.
Write and produce quality news stories for multiple media platforms.
Handle breaking news and general assignments when needed.
Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
Must have a minimum of two years? experience covering local and state government, news experience in shooting and reporting, including gathering enterprise content.
Fluent in the use of government records and the state and federal open records acts.
Must have strong live skills and the ability to research, write, shoot, and edit daily news stories under deadline pressure.
Must also have a strong understanding of multi-platform journalism including how to shoot, write and edit stories, video and photographs for the web and social media.
Must have a valid driver's license.
