Production Manager - Touring
Break the Floor Productions is one of the world's preeminent dance entertainment companies, encompassing touring theatrical productions, dance workshops, photo and video production, corporate events and apparel. With a broad range of business prospects and a reach of over 500,000 dancers annually, we are largely responsible for the transformation of dance entertainment.
We are currently seeking Production Managers for upcoming national tours in the United States, Canada & Central America. Applicants should be based in Los Angeles and have a basic knowledge of theatrical production, including audio, video and lighting, as well as extensive knowledge in personnel and production management.
We are currently staffing the following dance convention/competition tours:

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- As a production manager, you will be responsible for some pre-production before each tour city. You will also be required to come into the warehouse on the Wednesday before each tour city for a full day (9:00am-6:00pm) to plan and review the upcoming city. This includes booking stagehand and video labor prior to the event, reviewing event diagrams and setup, following up with various contractors and truck drivers, and submitting weekly paperwork to office via e-mail.
- During show weekends, you will fly out of Los Angeles on Thursday, and return on Monday from any of Los Angeles' major airports including LAX, Burbank, & Long Beach.
- Responsible for overall running of crew and department heads (video, audio, lighting) from load-in through load-out.
- Responsible for overseeing load-in and load-out in a timely manner.
- As Production Manager, you also act as Crew-Chief during load-in. This is a physical requirement and you will be expected to help load & unload trucks, setup staging, and assist with A/V and lighting setup if needed. You are there from beginning to end of each load-in and load-out.
- Ensure equipment is maintained either through self-servicing equipment, or informing BTFP office.
- Ensure equipment is put on truck in orderly fashion to ensure it's safe arrival in next city.
Experience
- Knowledge of dance conventions & competitions is a major plus, please include this in your resume.
- Minimum 2 years tour management or production management experience in related entertainment production field.
- Basic conventional/intelligent lighting, audio, and video experience.
- Ability to work long hours in high-stress theatrical production environments.
Time Commitment
- Applicant must be available for all cities of the tour which they are assigned. For each city, you will be traveling from LA to the host city on Thursday with show run Friday-Sunday. You will also be required to work a full day on the Wednesday prior to each city. You will fly out Thursday morning, and setup is usually Thursday afternoon/evening. You will travel back to LA Monday morning.
- Applicant must also be available to work our major events in the summer, these include:
* The Dance Awards Las Vegas (6/29/16-7/10/16)
* The Dance Awards Orlando (7/9/16-7/18/16)
* Dance Teacher Summit New York (7/27/16-8/1/16)
* DancerPalooza Long Beach (7/31/16-8/8/16)
Shop Work
Prior to each tour, you will need to commit to a minimum 3 weeks of paid training and shop work to prepare for the tour at our production facility in North Hollywood, CA.
You must be available Monday-Saturday during prep weeks. There will also be the opportunity to work additional hours at the shop during off-weeks as well as Tuesdays during the tour.
Compensation
$1350 per city average. Shop Pay begins at $18/hr.
