The Master Control Operator perform a variety of tasks related to live, pre-recorded, studio and field production, all in support of a 24x7 TV broadcast channel. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, monitoring and control of the on-air automation system and recording/playback of material on VTRs and servers. This role also performs other tasks, as assigned, including, but not limited to, Broadcast technician, Audio technician, VTR operator, Content Server System operator, Transmission/Satellite Control (TOC) operator and Technical Director.
This is a part-time position which requires flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Operate all Master Control equipment for TV production primarily in a live studio environment
• Check and mark daily logs to ensure accuracy and completeness, and distribute to affected areas
• Load/append the daily schedule/log provided by Traffic for the automation system
• Monitor the automation system for proper event execution
• Perform manual rolling and switching of designated on-air events
• Maintain established procedure for logging and creation of timing sheets associated with incoming tapes
• Perform ingest procedure for transfer of media material into the air server
• Ensure all recordings are accomplished per daily schedule
• Monitor outbound and return TVG program feeds (C-Band & DBS) to ensure quality and continuity of all broadcast signal parameters
• Collect and organize format and transmission information for outside produced programs
• Perform other tasks, as assigned, including, but not limited to, Broadcast technician, Audio technician, VTR operator, Content Server System operator, Transmission/Satellite Control (TOC) operator and Technical Director
• Perform duties on remote broadcasts, as assigned
• Adhere to Company procedures and policies, and management and supervisory directives
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Hands-on and/or working knowledge of systems/equipment used in functions identified above, including analog/digital video/audio signals and monitoring equipment
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to travel to remote broadcast sites, as assigned
• Ability to lift and carry loads up to 70 pounds
• Ability to work well in a broadcast team environment, including talent, producers and directors, under strict time deadlines
• Willingness and ability to work varied schedules and to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
• Three plus years overall broadcast operations experience at a local TV station, cable/satellite channel or other industry-related activities
• Three years' experience working as a Master Control Operator, utilizing accepted operational techniques to achieve a high quality broadcast
