POSITION: Director of Development
SUMMARY: The Director of Development is responsible for implementing bergenPAC's fundraising strategy in order to increase philanthropic revenue for the organization from individual, corporate, events, program guide, foundation and government sources. bergenPAC is currently in the quiet phase of a capital campaign, in addition to growing its annual campaign and membership programs. The Director of Development will supervise a small team of professionals as well as manage a portfolio of relationships personally to achieve success. Working closely with the CEO, Board of Trustees and senior staff, the Director of Development will drive momentum across bergenPAC's development programs and oversee the production of key events in order to generate a sustainable pipeline of funding to meet the organization's short and long term needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee the certain development activities including annual and capital fundraising, foundation grants, membership program, sponsorships, and benefit events such as the annual gala.
• Work with the CEO to develop a clear fundraising strategy and to set realistic, ambitious goals.
• Maintain direct responsibility for achieving the annual fundraising team target, tracking versus budget regularly with Director of Finance/Controller.
• Identify and manage a portfolio of donors, members and prospects capable of making five, six and seven figure gifts to bergenPAC.
• Lead and motivate the development team through effective management, performance tracking and goal setting.
• Map and refine the supporter journey in order to maximize acquisition, promote donor conversion, and ensure effective cultivation and proper stewardship.
• Build strong relationships with staff and external stakeholders to raise awareness of the case for philanthropic support and to clarify giving opportunities.
• Support the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees as required.
• Have impeccable communication skills, be highly detail oriented, self-motivated and a strategic thinker. This position requires a high-degree of responsibility and productivity, successfully juggling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Must possess impeccable communication skills, be highly detail oriented, self-motivated and a strategic thinker. This position requires a high-degree of responsibility and productivity, successfully juggling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Qualified applicants will possess:
• A proven track record for cultivating relationships and securing funding commitments from individuals, foundations and corporations. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years related work experience.
• Strong leadership skills, with experience managing others in a proactive and positive manner.
• Excellent writing and organizational skills.
• A high level of emotional intelligence.
• Proven ability to work independently and collegially with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Enthusiasm for and knowledge of the performing arts.
• Knowledge of Northern New Jersey funding market a must.
• Experience working in a campaign environment, and knowledge of Raiser's Edge a plus.
• A bachelor's degree or higher is required.
• Willingness to work evening hours.
Salary commensurate with experience.
