Fall Intern - Legal Department/Business Affairs
Bank Robber MusicNew York, NY
Part Time Unpaid Internship
Intern Duties: An internship in the Legal Department at Bank Robber Music / Rough Trade Publishing would consist of helping with all of the legal aspects of music licensing, including tracking and entering quotes in our database, drafting licenses and invoice requests, redlining revisions to documents, running reports on outstanding agreements and filing/scanning fully executed contracts and payments.
An intern would also help with organizing; assembling and shipping regularly scheduled mailings of music and information to our most important music supervisors. They will also be responsible for maintaining a number of different shared documents and keeping them up to date. These documents include dates of shows, release dates of records, contact information for both clients and supervisors as well as other information that is important to the company's functions.
An intern's duties may fluctuate and change as the semester progresses, but the above is a general idea of some of the tasks that will be expected.
Requirements: We're looking for a student who is enthusiastic about the music industry, with a specialized interest in the world of licensing, specifically the quoting and contract process. Previous knowledge of copyright a plus. We work mostly with indie rock bands, so it's always nice when an intern shares our enthusiasm for the acts that we work with (listed on both the Bank Robber Music and Rough Trade Music artist pages).
An intern should be very computer literate, with knowledge of the basic Microsoft Office programs (mainly Word & Excel). Owning their own laptop is not required, but they will be able to work on their on computer if it's their preference. They will need to know how to work on a Mac, even if they don't own one.
Salary: We are looking for an intern to work two days a week (any combination of Monday-Friday), for 6-8 hours each day. Interns are not required to be enrolled in school during the semester in which they wish to intern. This internship is only available in exchange for school credit. There will be no monetary compensation… but plenty of snacks.
Additional Comments: Bank Robber Music is a licensing company that creatively pitches, negotiates and places music into Films, TV, video games & ad spots. We represent the master recording rights for some of the most highly regarded independent record labels in the U.S., in addition to a few select independent artists. BRM also facilitates synch licensing for the Rough Trade Publishing, a publishing and administration company that currently has a roster of over 200 bands and collectively more than 450 songwriters. By the end of the internship, the intern should have a full understanding of the process in which music is placed into visual media.
