Title: Technical Lead/Closed Caption and Subtitling Editor
Job Summary:
Technical Lead/Caption and Subtitling Editor must have mastery of all caption and subtitling skills and full knowledge of technical requirements of caption and subtitling production.
• Mastery of all skills levels in origination and reformatting of caption and subtitle files.
• Functional knowledge of different types of exports and file formats.
o Must be able to do Hi Def exports, i.e., Ultech DV3000, Final Cut Pro, BluRay, etc…
o Must have functional knowledge of Swift, MacCaption, WinCaps and all related proprietary softwares for captioning and subtitling.
• Functional knowledge of all significant IT issues, including but not limited to…
o Internet Captioning (SAMIs, Flash, Real Player, QuickTime)
o Transcoding Video
o FTP Sites, Aspera, Faspex and performing necessary deliveries
• Lead caption and subtitling editor will be responsible for teaching and training all the skills from all levels of captioning and subtitling.
• Lead caption and subtitling editor will be responsible for performing all of the above skills and organizing projects
• Responsible for Creation and Update of Style Guides and Client Specs
o Caption/Subtitling Style Guides (i.e. new or existing clients,)
o Import and Export Specs (i.e. new or existing clients)
• Responsible for additional Training and Workshop of Caption/Subtitling Editors
o Software updates & specs
o Newly created or updates on client specs
• Act as back-up and Assist in Project Management
o Responsible for coordinating workflow process in conjunction with Operations Manager or Production Coordinator on Subtitling projects (i.e. organizing special subtitling instructions)
o Act as back-up on FTP set-up in conjunction with Operations Manager or Production Coordinator.
o Assist Account Managers or Operations Manager in final file deliveries when necessary (i.e. export file deliveries via FTP site, email, etc.)
o Be able to perform and back-up for in-house captioning and subtitling on a daily basis.
o Be able to perform and back up file and timecode conversions when necessary.
• Responsible for troubleshooting / Corrections of caption or subtitle files
o Assisting Operations Manager, Account Managers, Project Coordinators when necessary
• Assist Operations Manager or Production Coordinator in translator troubleshooting issues when necessary (i.e. Softwares, Word Templates, Input Locals, Keyboard Layouts, Spellchecks, Word Settings, FTP sites, etc.)
• Responsible for continued development and updates on Caption and Subtitling softwares and databases (i.e. FinalCut Pro, Netflix Backlot, Swift, WinCaps, MacCaption) where applicable.
Abilities and Minimum requirements:
• Any combination of education and training/experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described. A typical qualifying background includes a bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or master's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field
• 2-4 years previous editing or professional caption and subtitling experience.
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Strong computer proficiency (both Mac and PC)
• High level of adaptability and must be able to work independently to meet production deadlines
• Excellent time management skills.
