POSITION SUMMARY: The Storage/Linux Systems Administrator is responsible for implementation, management and support for the enterprise storage and Linux operating system environments. The person in this role will serve as a technical resource in the area of storage administration and Linux support.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Essential Functions: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
• Administers, installs, configures, and maintains storage systems and related resources to ensure stable performance of the storage environment. Evaluates system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibilities.
• Administers, installs, configures, and maintains Linux operating systems and related resources to ensure stable performance of the Linux environment. Evaluates system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibilities.
• Recognizes and troubleshoots operating problems with storage hardware and application software.
• Recognizes and troubleshoots operating problems with Linux operating systems and application software.
• Diagnoses hardware and software problems, recommends solutions and performs necessary system repairs.
• Researches, analyzes and recommends backup/security strategies as required.
• Performs installations of hardware, software, and operating systems upgrades, changes and configurations.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or related work experience required
Experience:
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in an enterprise storage administrator role
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in a Linux systems administrator role
Skills
and Abilities:
• Three (3) years of system administration with enterprise storage systems.
• Three (3) years of system administration with Linux operating systems.
• Experience managing Storage Area Network (SAN) systems:
• With SAN technologies including Fibre Channel and iSCSI
• With SAN protocols including NFS and CIFS
• With SAN functions including data deduplication, replication and synchronization
• Experience managing Network Attached Storage (NAS) arrays as shared file storage and archiving configured to support RAID, high availability and redundancy.
• Experience with capacity planning and reporting.
• Familiarity with cloud-based storage solutions.
• Background working in and integrating with Microsoft solutions and technologies.
• Experience in maintaining server and storage environments including security patches, firmware upgrades, hot fixes, service packs, intermediate versions / full version upgrades.
• Experience with monitoring systems and technologies.
• Experience in server and desktop virtualization platforms such as VMWare, Hyper-V, Citrix XenApp Server and XenDesktop preferred.
• Ability to read and write shell scripts.
• Strong communication skills, analytical ability, judgment and the ability to work effectively with other systems technical staff, internal business customers, and external consultants and vendors.
