BMG is an international group of music companies focused on the management of music rights. BMG covers the entire range of rights administration, development, and exploitation, placing the needs of songwriters and artists at the core of its business model. Since its founding in 2008, BMG has established a presence in eight core music markets and represents the rights of more than 300,000 songs and recordings including Crosstown Songs, Cherry Lane Music Publishing, Stage Three Music, Evergreen
Copyrights and Chrysalis group as well as signed a number of prominent artists and songwriters.
The Marketing and Synchronization Department places songs in television, film, commercials, and in various other media formats. In addition to generating revenue through synchs, the department markets the BMG Chrysalis catalog through pointed placements. The department works in close relation with the Creative (A&R) department to ensure that all acquired catalogs are being marketed to their full potential.
The Marketing/Synch Intern is responsible for the following:
• Data entry of Synch deals, projects, etc. in IMaestro
• Following up on outstanding licenses, payment, cue sheets, media buy schedules, videos, merchandising products, etc.
• Aiding in executed licenses, generating cover letters for fully executed licenses and scanning licenses and attaching to electronic copy of file.
• Filing/Copying
• Help pitch songs from the catalog for various searches that come in to the staff
• Various projects as determined by the staff
In addition, the intern will be included in departmental meetings. He or she will learn about synchronization in film, television, advertising and new media, and the general ins and outs of how a music publishing company works.
Mandatory intern skills/qualifications:
• Basic office skills
• Typing/data entry ability
• Music business familiarity
• Experience with MS Word/Excel, and database programs
• Interest in learning about music marketing and synchronization
Desired skills/qualifications:
• Music business major in college
• Familiarity/strong interest/concentration in music marketing/licensing
• Prior music industry experience a plus
Evaluation:
• Intern is asked to maintain a project log detailing the projects/tasks that they have been assigned. The log indicates whether assignments have been completed or are ongoing.
• Both Managers will provide feedback on the intern's progress during and at the completion of the program.
