Overview and Responsibilities
Position Summary:
BET Networks is currently seeking an accomplished content strategist and editorial professional to join the digital team as Director of Centric.tv. The position is based in New York.
The Director will develop an editorial strategy and oversee content for Centric.tv, reporting in to the Vice President and Managing Editor of BET Digital.
On a day-to-day basis, the Director is responsible for the leadership, production and direction of compelling, engaging, and relevant content created for the digital age of social publishing. Centric is the first network designed for Black women, and the corresponding website serves as a destination for network content as well as news, entertainment and lifestyle as it relates to today’s mature Black woman. To be successful in this role, candidates must possess strong knowledge of topics that are relevant to the Centric woman and have a familiarity with the network’s show catalog. The ideal candidate must have a proven track record of producing timely multi-media content, including, but not limited to, short-form and long-form copy, photo galleries, video series and social-first content. The ability to produce companion content for Centric shows is a must.
Possessing a sense of urgency and the ability to perform in a fast-paced newsroom environment with agility and composure is imperative in this position. Also key is having pre-existing relationships with subject matter experts from fashion, beauty and lifestyle sectors.
The individual in this position is expected to support Centric’s advertising sales team by ideating and creating opportunities to productize content that is compelling and sellable.
Management experience is a must, as this role requires the oversight of five direct reports. As a result, the ideal candidate will understand how to articulate a definitive viewpoint and voice for the entire team to execute against.
Finally, the ability to track and measure performance, and optimize content for maximum consumption in the form of viewership and engagement, is a key component to the position. The Director is required to meet traffic goals on a daily basis and is responsible for overall growth of the site.
Responsibilities:
The Director will oversee the development and execution of all CenricTV.com content, which includes shows, news, relationships, beauty and style verticals
• Produce best-in-class lifestyle content for web, video, and social media channels
• Work closely with the VP, Managing Editor to develop and maintain a consistent perspective and voice for all verticals that align with both CentricTV.com and the network
• Leverage industry relationships to secure access to produce exclusive and original content
• Operate in an urgent, timely, and agile manner
• Contribute and execute ideas that elevate the overall Centric brand and position Centrictv.com as a leading authority in the delivery of relevant, social-first content
• Support advertising sales with ideas for sponsorable content
• Grow participation among existing users and attract new users while meeting and exceeding traffic and viewership goals
• Develop channel-specific social media strategies that drive overall department goals
• Maintain an active balance of hands-on support and team leadership
• Ensure consistency and quality control throughout all content
• Bring a positive attitude, creative thinking, and a desire to win to work everyday
Education:
A Bachelors’ degree from an accredited and recognized institution of higher learning is required
Basic Qualifications
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
We seek a seasoned content professional who has a strong understanding of digital media. Ideally, this person is currently overseeing online content in relevant areas such as entertainment, beauty, style, and relationship.
The Director must have 6 years of experience developing and overseeing digital content at a top website or brand. The candidate must have proven editorial and leadership skills managing digital content.
The candidate must be an enthusiastic team leader and experienced manager of staff, budgets, projects, and deadlines. In addition, the candidate must have:
