JOB PURPOSE
Working to the SVP, the Manager will be responsible for managing television sales activity within the fiction genres with designated clients across both television and digital, as well as supporting some co-productions. They will need to deliver consistently against a stretching business plan and budget, maximizing exploitation and profitability of the BBCW Catalogue through licensing programme rights within the US territory for television and video-on-demand.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- To keep in constant contact with all assigned US buyers pitching upcoming programmes for TV sales.
The Manager will be primarily accountable for:
- Sales of comedy and drama programming to assigned TV partners
- Supporting/project managing some co-productions
- Driving sales of and packaging catalog drama programming to TV partners (except to those clients assigned to the Co-ordinator)
- Supporting all their own sales deals
- To work closely with the BBC Worldwide Content team in the UK in order to better serve the US market and provide feedback to the UK - The Manager will need to have an understanding of how the UK television business works, particularly the BBC. They should also have an understanding of, and enthusiasm for comedy and drama programming.
- It is important the Manager has knowledge across all programming and clients within the scripted genre in order to provide cover when necessary. The Manager will, in time, be required to travel to domestic clients as well as attendance of some key TV markets.
Client Relationships:
- Foster and maintain close contact with the clients' acquisition personnel and build close relationships with them
- Work closely with key personnel within BBC Worldwide Content acting as one of the key contacts for the US market
- Actively seek and develop new sales opportunities (e.g. packages, branded slots, channel potential), and to forge new relationships with new television channels
- Support own sales deals and some co-production deals, ensuring client is fully abreast of any updates and/or issues. Work with the LA team to track delivery of materials and ensure timely and efficient delivery to clients to meet their deadlines.
-To act at all times as an ambassador for the BBC
Market Knowledge:
- Have up to date knowledge of the US television and digital market, programming requirements and changing consumer profiles, and competitor activity in the territory
- Have a strong understanding of how the television industry works in the UK, particularly in relation to the BBC
- Develop an excellent knowledge of BBC programming within the fiction genres, and of the television landscape in both the UK and the US
Contractual Expertise:
- Carefully negotiate the best possible program slot and terms (including pricing, license period, windowing and payment plan) with the most desirable broadcaster; to ensure that the ancillary rights achieve their maximum revenue potential, taking advise from the SVP
- Ensure that commercial criteria are rigorously applied to all contracts, thereby maximising revenue and profit for BBC Worldwide Americas
- Ensure that television deals are negotiated in the best possible way that digital revenues can also be maximised
With the SVP, review contracts, and follow through on all details necessary to execute contract (e.g. client signature, BBC receipt and signature)
- Ensure that all necessary clearances are in place and that contracts concluded are profitable to BBC Worldwide
- To maintain strong credit control and to chase outstanding debts where and when necessary
Sales Performance & Reporting Accountability:
- Contribute/feed in to the preparation of the genre business plans as appropriate
- Responsible for the promotion and sales of the BBC catalogue with designated clients
- Achieve pre-established sales contribution targets
- Facilitate the investment process by inputting forecasting information in a timely manner, and ''best estimate'' sales projections on new titles under consideration
- Develop new client base from emerging cable markets and deliver increased revenues from back catalogue titles
- To administrate the sales order process for own sales deals and designated co-productions -signature and processing of Deal - Memos, issuing and signature of standard and non-standard contracts. To maintain up-to-date and accurate records of all Sales and to communicate with the Finance department for purposes of accurate accounting and invoicing
- To understand fully the processes and costs for supplying master tapes and/or digital files to US clients and to communicate these to the Sales teams to inform their deal negotiations, and order up relevant technical materials and artwork to service deals using BBCW systems
- To understand fully the processes and costs for supplying master tapes and/or digital files to US clients and to use these to inform their deal negotiations
Promotional Activity:
- To ensure clients are kept informed of all new program availabilities through pitching/ presentations and close communication
- Deliver sophisticated sales/pitch materials, and negotiate promotion terms for all sales with relevant clients
- To identify the client need for new programming and/or back catalogue packages
- To ensure that all clients and prospects receive timely promotional and programming material (e.g. publicity, viewing cassettes, master tapes, M&E soundtracks, and scripts)
NATURE AND SCOPE

- An understanding of the complexities of windowing structures between TV and digital and what that means to the future value of the business.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience within programme distribution
- Strong administrative experience and experience of supporting complex co-production deals
- Knowledge of US television and digital market is essential, as is an in-depth understanding of the UK television industry, in particular the BBC
- Experience of working on drama, comedy and/or children's programming, and of working with scripts
- Negotiation and presentation skills with experience in pitching and negotiation
- Effective communicator
- Excellent interpersonal skills
