Full Time Unpaid Internship
INTERN, MEDIA RELATIONS (SRPING 2017)
Here’s your chance to experience a bold and dynamic organization first hand. The Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club will be looking for passionate team players to participate in our Spring 2017 Internship Program. The program is designed to give top candidates real-life experience in the sports and entertainment industry, in addition to providing educational and networking opportunities. Educational components include interactive workshops, executive speaker series and job shadow opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Non-Game Days:
• Assist with editing of team publications, press releases and collateral materials
• Assist with writing and editing of game notes
• Compile newspaper clippings archive
• Create and distribute season and single game credentials for media, visiting team and organization
• Prepare and distribute pregame packets for the visiting team and media
• On occasion accompany players on community/media relations events
• Handle administrative responsibilities, including processing confidential reports, tracking deadlines, distributing department mail, managing purchase requests and taking meeting notes
• Assist with media availabilities and player interviews at practice and shoot around
• Contribute to the Hawks’ “Seasonal Media Guide” and “Playoff Media Guide”
• Assist with media tracking and daily clips distribution as needed.
• Other duties as assigned
Game Days:
• Create and place media seating cards and seating charts throughout the arena
• Complete creating single game credentials for the upcoming game
• Complete the Next Opponent packets
• Assist with updating the game notes
• Send the Scouts e-mail and excel sheet to the Basketball Operations Department
• Update and send the LED e-mail about where the Hawks rank statistically to Game Operations Department
• Prep the game notes for next game
• Manage press entrance prior to tipoff
• Distribute stats and other materials to media in game
• Assist with postgame notes and quotes
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• The spring semester Internship Program will run from January through April (15 weeks)
• Open to any qualified applicant who can meet the time commitment and is at least a junior in college, graduate student or recent college graduate
• The GPA minimum requirement is 3.0
• Interns are expected to work at least 37.5 hours per week and may have additional game day responsibilities (depending on department assignments)
• The ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays is required
• Interns are paid $9 per hour; course credit is available, if needed
• Interns are responsible for travel and housing arrangements
• Public Relations, communications or journalism background
• Familiar with AP style writing
• Excellent sense of discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality a must
• Detail-minded; follow-through, thoroughness, and organization of time and work of prime importance
• Ability to work with a variety of individuals and not be intimidated by strong personalities
• Ability to work with internal and external clients with a positive customer service-oriented attitude
• Flexible schedule, available to work late nights, weekends and holidays (if needed), with ability to work in a fast-pace environment and adapt to changes
