Do you want to play a pivotal role in a growing business? Do you have a passion for developing, owning and driving content strategies forward? Brilliance Publishing (a division of Amazon Publishing), is looking to hire an experienced and market-savvy Acquisitions Editor who will acquire exceptional titles for our audiobook publishing division, Brilliance Audio.
You will be responsible for discovering, evaluating and acquiring audiobooks in a variety of categories; managing author and agent relationships; and collaborating with the publishing team to deliver quality audiobooks and world-class author experiences. This is a multi-faceted job in a start-up environment that requires innovation, ownership, flexibility and a bias for action.
Position details:
Your day-to-day focus will include:
* Monitoring format, category trends and sales and customer review data on books
* Soliciting submissions from publishers and agents, identifying and evaluating the right projects and pitching to internal acquisition stakeholders
* Working closely with our internal teams (e.g., Finance, Studio, Marketing, Sales) to guide work from acquisition through publication
* Developing and maintaining strong relationships with authors, literary agents, publishers and industry contacts
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* BA/BS required in English, Journalism, Communications or related field
* 4 or more years of experience as an acquisitions editor or literary agent identifying, acquiring and successfully negotiating content
* Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel and Word
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Experience acquiring, developing or pitching content across multiple categories
* Demonstrated creativity in identifying new opportunities and a fearless attitude to chasing down leads
* Strong negotiation skills and the fortitude to face rejection
* Proven editorial judgment and experience working with top authors
* Strong analytical skills; the ability and desire to use a variety of data to make decisions, back up proposals and measure results
* Ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
* Interested in pop culture, current events and new media platforms
* Experience publishing non-fiction content in digital formats
* Able to work in New York City (preferred) or at a minimum, travel as needed to company offices
