Amazon Studios – Movies Distribution Manager
Amazon Studios launched in 2010 as a new way to develop feature films and episodic series-one that's open to great ideas from creators and audiences around the world. Anyone can upload a script online for Amazon Studios to review, and those who choose to make their projects public can also receive feedback from the Amazon Studios community.
Amazon Studios Original Content is available to Prime members and is known for bringing customers the Golden Globe-winning and Emmy-winning series Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle along with original hits like The Man in the High Castle, The New Yorker Presents, Red Oaks, Hand of God, Bosch, and Catastrophe . Prime members also have access to a collection of Amazon Original series for kids such as Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street, Wishenpoof, Just Add Magic, and the Annecy, Annie, and multi-Emmy Award-winning Tumble Leaf. Amazon Studios' first original movie, Spike Lee's Chi-Raq, premiered in theatres in 2015, with more coming soon.
We are seeking a movie distribution manager with a passion for high-quality movies who wants to help a busy movies distribution and business affairs team continue to grow and evolve.
The movies distribution manager will work across all stages of deal-making in the motion picture distribution process, starting with early stage development through post-greenlight. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to build complex financials models, and communicate findings in a clear way to senior management. The candidate will have a sophisticated understanding of the economics that drive the motion picture business, and be able to complete detailed, data-based, inquiries into key business questions.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to complete high volumes of complex tasks and projects quickly with little to no guidance; react with appropriate urgency to situations and events that require quick response or turnaround; take effective action without having to know the total picture; and efficiently and creatively solve difficult or complex problems that affect people within the business. The candidate will also have great attention to detail and organization skills, as well as the ability to switch gears at a moment's notice. A high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with senior professionals inside and outside the company is key. This position is located in Santa Monica, California.
Responsibilities:
. Analyzing financial risk and reward of various feature film structures
. Writing strategy documents giving recommendations on content spend and distribution channels
. Establishing best practices for forecasting lifetime movie ultimates from development stage through catalog
. Tracking home entertainment revenues, and helping manage the home entertainment distribution process
. Working with internal teams including finance, production, marketing, research and creative within Amazon to establish best practices in reporting and forecasting
Basic Qualifications:
. Must have excellent analytical skills and be a strong quantitative thinker
. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
. Deep understanding of movie financing structures, licensing contracts, and back-end participations
. Experience with building complex financial models and ability to articulate concise recommendations from large amounts of data
. The ability to interact effectively and professionally with Amazon executives at all levels, as well as outside producers, agents and creative partners, is required.
. High attention to detail with detailed planning, time management, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
. MBA, PhD, JD, Masters in Finance or similar degree and at least 3 years work experience in a relevant role
. A top-tier school, and a record of high achievement is a plus
. Investment banking or management consulting experience a plus
. Detailed knowledge of entertainment, new digital trends and technologies
