POSITION SUMMARY: PUBLICIST, AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKETING
This position will help create and execute national publicity campaigns as part of a quickly growing marketing division targeting the African-American consumer. In partnership with a cross-functional team that includes marketing, publicity and promotions and digital, the publicist will be responsible for driving the day-to-day on several entertainment and film-related projects. The ideal candidate is an innovative leader and motivated self-starter who is creative, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and can do so effectively in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, candidate must be able to manage team members and liaise confidently with clients and senior agency executives and most importantly have strong media relations skills.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
CLIENT SERVICE
- Drive day-to-day communication with clients as assigned on behalf of national publicity and ensure that all reporting is accurate and delivered to the client as agreed upon by the campaign
- Analyze client goals strategically, creatively and present findings
- Demonstrate superior writing and editing skills for client materials and plans
PUBLICITY SPECIFIC ROLES
- Write creative stories and press materials directed by team leads
- Pitch day-to-day story angles across all national AA platforms - online, print, radio, broadcast, digital
- Create recap recaps and post-event outreach pending each campaign
- Serve as right hand to Senior Publicist to guide and manage publicity team as needed
- Develop strategic publicity plans, campaigns and new business proposals as directed by team leads
- Staff and assist during events
- Oversee outreach and results-driven execution for entertainment campaigns on a national scale , which include but are not limited to:
- Junket, premiers, screenings and PA tours
- Story placements, general positive coverage around campaign, talent bookings and more
- Oversee the development and management of master publicity media list including in the AA media and influencer spectrum
- Conduct outreach to secure dynamic, multi-platform press and media partnerships on behalf of clients
- Anticipate PR challenges and proactively provide recommended plan of action to move publicity campaigns forward
- Provide PR strategy for special events and create unique tactics to build buzz
LEADERSHIP AND NEW BUSINESS
- Effectively manage, coach and supervise interns/trainees, coordinators and junior staffers
- Participate in the development of new business pitches including business research and proposal development; actively participates in brainstorming and strategy sessions
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5 years agency public relations / publicity experience in entertainment marketing, film / television publicity or relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience in using Cision Point service
- Proficient in Microsoft suite
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrate strong media relations skills in the AA marketplace or relevant
- Ability to grow professional media network
- Experience in a leadership role overseeing junior staff and managing up to team leads
- Proven success at developing and executing PR and marketing plans
- Strong creative writing and verbal communication skills
- Manage campaign budgets as it relates to publicity
- Independent thinker and deadline driven
- Ability to create and update efficient press lists
- Experience in managing events and red carpet premieres
- Knowledge of the pop culture trends in entertainment spectrum within the AA space
- Able to demonstrate flexibility and team leadership in a fast-paced environment
