The Emmy Award winning All3Media America is looking for a VP, Business & Legal Affairs to join its expanding internal Business & Legal Affairs Department. Under the direction of the SVP, Business & Legal Affairs, this department handles all production and development legal work for unscripted programming and the ideal candidate will have depth and breadth of experience in scripted programming as well.
Primary duties include:
• Structuring, negotiating and drafting all production deals and agreements (short and long form) in unscripted television productions (e.g., license and co-production, rights acquisition, showrunner, production services, participant and talent agreements, format licenses, etc.);
• Supervising day-to-day production legal work for presentations, pilots, specials and series, including managing a staff of two Coordinators;
• Leading, engaging and/or advising in strategic deal discussions, including providing complex risk assessment for all production-related matters;
• Advising and communicating with internal departments (e.g., Production Management, Creative, Current Programming, Music, Clearance, Human Resources, Post Production and Accounting/Finance) on a wide variety of business and legal matters, including deal structures, intellectual property rights, any and all production legal issues (including the implementation of legal and network policies and procedures), risk management, guild/union and labor issues, insurance matters, intellectual property rights, marketing, music, and promotions and product integrations;
• Performing other day-to-day business and legal affairs-related tasks as needed
Qualifications/Skills:
• Minimum 5-7 years of significant television production experience in a business and/or legal affairs department at a major production company, studio or network, in addition to related law firm experience;
• Must be member in good standing with the California Bar;
• Possess extensive knowledge of the entertainment industry including: customary industry parameters; common legal issues and solutions involved in successfully completing transactions; in-depth knowledge regarding the production of television programming and the exploitation of ancillary rights related thereto; guild/union and non-union labor and employment law issues relating to productions; intellectual property law; risk management issues, rights of publicity/privacy issues;
• Possess excellent negotiating, drafting, analytical, interpersonal, organizational, prioritizing and time management skills in a high-volume production environment;
• Ability to professionally and confidently interact with senior level staff and generate strong client satisfaction through firm decision-making;
• Ability to communicate effectively and properly represent All3A with agents, attorneys and other business affairs executives while building and maintaining strong industry relationships;
• Ability to rapidly absorb information and conform to existing business practices while simultaneously offering innovative solutions to improve efficiency and client satisfaction.
