Full Time Job
Negotiate, draft, and manage all subsequent steps through and including mutual execution of real life/documentary programming agreements (e.g., commission, co-production, acquisition, development), a significant number of on-camera participant agreements, and other agreements (e.g., movie license, indie film distribution, marketing, service-related) as directed and assigned. Advise Programming, and other relevant departments, regarding negotiation status, keeping management apprised of all material issues.
Negotiate and draft agreements/amendments following receipt and review of needed approvals and documentation (such as internal memoranda, e-mails and directives of applicable Programming Department executive supervising the project); review similar documents drafted by outside parties. Negotiate and/or redraft agreements/amendments as necessary based on L&BA forms and comments from the outside party in keeping with precedents and guidance from supervising attorney, and others (e.g., programming executive, production personnel, etc.). Track status of amendments/agreements through execution.
•Partner and interact with internal and external clients to meet A E's client goals and needs.
•Advise and inform colleagues of known policies at other networks to ensure that A E remains cutting edge and competitive with others in the industry competing for similar properties.
•Ensure that agreements are concluded quickly and accurately, meeting A E's needs and specifications, and conforming to industry standards where possible in light of company goals.
•Handle matters as assigned relating to content initiatives (e.g., marketing and/or promotional activities that may have talent-related issues, product placement initiatives, production activity matters, intellectual property issues relating to editing of programs, etc.).
Required Experience:
5 years at any of the following (or a combination thereof): a major entertainment law firm, a cable or broadcast network in the legal and/or business affairs department, or a television production company. Prior experience negotiating scripted, book option, film distribution, and/or talent/service agreements a plus; prior in-house cable/broadcast network experience also a plus. Strong interpersonal, negotiation and verbal/writing skills mandatory. Given number and variety of assignments, must be highly organized, detail oriented and comfortable operating in a team environment, where issues are regularly discussed.
Required Education:
BA/BA Degree & JD Degree with admission to NYS bar.
