Job Description:
The primary responsibility of the Business and Legal Affairs (BALA) Manager will be to support BALA attorneys in the management and handling of a high volume and variety of Membership-related agreements and documents, including supervising the user-side of a newly-developed deal management software tool. The BALA Manager will work with staff in various ASCAP operational areas (e.g., Licensing, Repertory, Royalty, Distribution, and Membership) to implement the terms and conditions of the under Membership-related agreements, and, under the supervision of BALA attorneys, will draft and review various membership-based agreements. The BALA Manager will also be responsible for monitoring agreement obligations with attorney supervision and communicating with other staff as needed.
Requirements:
• Three or more years of experience drafting and/or reviewing legal documents (e.g., contracts, memoranda, letter agreements);
• Experience with management of high volume of contracts/agreements and/or clearances;
• Proven written and oral communication/advisement skills, with specific experience communicating rules, regulations, and/or policies;
• Demonstrated experience handling stressful and time-sensitive matters;
• Self-motivated and able to handle projects independently from start-to-finish
• Interest in working in a fast-paced, rewarding position with a first-in-class legal team;
• Background in Music, Publishing and/or Performance Rights preferred;
• Strong proficiency in Word and Excel;
• Stickler for detail;
• Experience working with creative individuals a plus;
• Strong academic background;
• Bachelors degree required; and
• Paralegal certification a plus.
