TITLE: Manager, Business & Legal Affairs - New Digital Business
OVERVIEW:
The Manager, Business & Legal Affairs will support AMC Networks' New Digital Business team, primarily supporting AMC Networks' Shudder and Sundance Now OTT streaming video services, and other digital initiatives across the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work very closely with, and under the supervision of, the Head of Business Affairs & Legal for New Digital Business to draft and negotiate a high volume of content license agreements in connection with Shudder's and Sundance Now's acquisition of films and television content
- Assist with drafting development agreements and basic talent agreements in connection with the development and production of original content for Shudder and Sundance Now
- Work closely with and counsel the acquisition team and other executives regarding interpretation of contractual rights and other legal issues related to content licensing agreements, vendor agreements, and other contracts as necessary
- Work with risk management and content acquisition teams to review broadcast histories for acquired programming to analyze risk
- Research and summarize contractual rights in connection with the above as needed on a project-specific basis
- Assist in continually revising and improving basic form agreements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Strong academic credentials, college degree
- 2+ years of experience working in-house legal, business affairs department or law firm. Ideally drafting contracts involving IP
- Excellent attention to detail and drafting skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and strong follow through
- Eagerness and ability to learn and retain new substantive matters quickly
- Ability to juggle a high-volume work flow and adapt to shifting priorities
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations
- Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong analytical and computer skills
Preferred:
- JD degree or paralegal experience preferred
- Familiarity with digital/OTT content distribution platforms
- Familiarity with TV development, production and distribution
