An excellent opportunity has arisen for a talented commercial / IP/ media lawyer to join the Asia-Pacific operations of this leading international television network, based in its Singapore office, and to contribute to the growing success of the company.
The position combines broad commercial and media legal work with a strong advisory role to the
business. Working within a small legal team in Singapore, the role will report directly to the Head of Legal in Singapore, and at certain times to the legal team based in New York, and provide a wide range of legal advice to the business, including:
• Negotiating and drafting content output licenses in respect of the large library of programming
content owned by the business, which is licensed out to third parties.
• Negotiating and drafting programme acquisition agreements in respect of content licensed in by
the business from third parties and advising on rights issues (particularly new media rights) in
respect of such acquired content.
• Negotiating and drafting carriage agreements in respect of each of the network's channels on
different platforms within the Asia-Pacific region, and over different delivery methods (DTH, cable,
online, mobile etc).
• Drafting and negotiating production and associated agreements for in-house produced content.
• Drafting and negotiating sponsorship, advertising sales and marketing contracts.
• Drafting and negotiating agency and representation agreements.
• Drafting competition and website terms of use.
• Ensuring compliance of advertising and sponsorship on the channels and websites.
• Advising on regulatory and compliance matters including data protection, anti-corruption and antibribery
matters.
Required Experience:
The ideal candidate will be Singapore or UK qualified (or equivalent), with at least 7 solid years of postqualification experience from a top-tier law firm and/or a TMT company (ideally within a media
environment in the field of television/digital media).
The candidate must have IP, licensing and commercial experience of general business affairs work. The candidate should have experience of negotiating contracts autonomously, be a confident negotiator with excellent drafting skills, attention to detail and technical acumen. The candidate must be a natural and confident communicator, at ease in supporting and liaising with senior management, with demonstrable analytical and critical thinking abilities. As a confident communicator, they will seek to build and grow relationships, both within the business and externally, exercising good judgement and a proactive, driven, focussed attitude.
The ability to speak and read business Mandarin is welcomed.
International travel may be required.
